ATT and State registration fees $200 each

Hello,

I didn't take my NCLEX exam in time and the ATT expired for state of New Jersey. ATT expired in 90 days, however, the registration fee of $200 paid to the state of NJ does not expire until August, 2013; it's good for a full year.

The state of NJ and Pearson VUE are demanding that I pay the entire $400 all over again. Why doesn't the state honor my $200 registration paid to them? They refuse and tell me to pay the whole $400 again. They said that it must be paid even though it doesn't expire yet.

Am I thick or does this not make sense to anyone else as well? The state tells me to call Pearson VUE and they tell me to call the state; I'm getting bounced back and forth between the two of them.

I understand that I have to pay the $200 for the ATT to the Ntl Council for application fee again, but why the other $200 fee to the state?

Has anyone had this problem that can offer some advise? I'd really appreciate it since I really can't afford to spend this money again.

That makes no sense to me. In Indiana the $200 is good for a year, no matter what as long as you don't miss your scheduled test date. If we didn't take the NCLEX in the 90 days allotted we would have only had to pay the $50 to the state again for the ATT. It's ridiculous to expect you to pay anything more than the state registration fee.

Thank you, that's what I thought. I just don't know the appropriate agency to complain to. Who is above and / or oversees the state of NJ for nursing boards??

Each state is responsible to itself. There are time limits to applications and each state creates regulations that candidates for licensing must abide by if they wish to gain a professional license in that state. There is a director of the BoN. The BoN is a board under the division of consumer affairs which is under the Dept of the NJ Attorney General. However, if you escalate your complaint it is highly likely that by the time you receive a response that your application will have expired and you will likely have to resubmit and pay the fees anyway.

The only clear situation listed on the application website is if you fail the NCLEX, you only need to pay Pearson for the reteset and submit the application without fee. I'm guessing there are not too many who fail to sit for the exam prior to the ATT expiration.
