2nd degree/accelerated BSN @ FDU, NJCU, RU, SHU, UMDNJ, or WPUNJ..do i have a chance?

I graduated from Rutgers with a BA in Psychology and a 2.5 GPA. :smackingf (I had intentions of minoring in Biological Sciences, which did not work out due to personal matters & also affected my GPA, and was unsure of applying to nursing programs). For some schools I already fulfilled some prereqs during my undergrad and took the rest at county college, maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Do I have a chance of getting into any of the accelerated BSN programs in New Jersey or should I apply to an RN program? Also, does anyone know where they offer a traditional, non-accelerated 2nd degree BSN program? I'm almost too nervous to apply. Help!

I think me and you are in the same boat just about. I finished at Rutgers with a 2.5 also in Sociology. I decided though to just throw my hat in as many places as I can. I figure the worse that could happen is they tell me no. I'm applying to both accelerated and hospital based programs. Once I get a few acceptances under my belt I'll decide from there which one would be the best choice for me. I just don't want to make up my mind about a specific program and be dead set on that one only to not get in. Wish you luck!!:up:

Seton Hall and Rutgers both offer 2 year second degree programs, I believe.

I also graduated with something like a 2.5, but got A's on all pre-reqs later - showing later discipline and maturity and all that, and was accepted at three programs.

Its good to know I'm not the only one and that it is possible to get into a BSN program. Do you know which program you're going to take?

I too graduated with a 2.67 from Montclair State and am going to enroll in the pre-reqs this spring. I know I can really improve my GPA being older, more focused and REALLY wanting to get into the accellerated program(s). Which schools/what programs were you accepted into? Were you currently taking the pre-reqs while you applied? I would be enrolled while applying, and wondered how they factor the grades while you're still in the class. You think I got a shot?

you can apply to NJCU. your Gpa is not so bad. they put alot of emphasis on their entrance exam Hesi. if you pass well your in.

I'm going to Villanova in May 2009 for their BSNExpress program!! Sure I have to leave New Jersey, but I figured that there are way too many applicants for their schools and with my undergrad GPA, my chances aren't that high. Besides, I visited Villanova's College of Nursing and I absolutely love it. :D

A few people have told me to still apply to Jersey schools just so I could have more, but should I if I already know I'm accepted to where I want to go?

Hey sweetlife. I can't find how to send/reply to a PM, but Villanova has a 14-month accelerated 2nd degree BSN program that is from May til the following August, as well as a 2 year program. They prefer a 3.0 GPA, but if its less than that, they'll consider you if you have at least a 3.0 in your pre-requisites..which was my case because I had a 3.8 with my prereqs. The application deadline was Nov. 1 and I found out Dec. 13.

I have similar problem too. For options sake what do you mean by hospital based programs.? What are these? and what do you graduate with? I need to start working as soon as possible because I have a family to support. I will be graduating from Ivy league univ with about a 2.8 and prereqs gpa of 3.3 from Bergen. I am scared of applying too

Hi. I think s/he meant a program designed/managed by a hospital that utilizes the class facilities/professors of a college. For example, Trinitas hospital works with Union County College for a program. Although it's not an accredited program, the fact that a well-respected hospital puts it's stamp of approval on it lends a lot of credibility. And if you read some of the posts about the program, the biggest complaint is that it's too hard.

I'm in the same boat as you, but still have some prereqs to go.
