UNH DEMN schedule

Hello, folks. I have seen a lot of DEMN students/grads on these boards and hope you can clarify something. If you're a recent or current student, you might be able to help.

I attended the info session in May 2009 and wrote down specifically (either from the student presenter or one of the professors) that I would be on campus 2 days a week, home doing online courses 2 days a week, and in clinicals one day a week the first semester. This seemed to be supported by the Time and Room schedule for Spring 2009. I was comparing the 2-year and 3-year tracks, and it seemed that the actual difference in the 3-year track was that one day I'd be able to go home earlier (on a day I would already be driving up there), and I'd have one online class instead of 2.

However, when I went to my interview, the interviewers seemed surprised that this was my impression of the schedule, and they said on the 2-year track, I would be on campus 3-4 days a week depending on whether I was in the sim lab or at an actual care facility. It would seem that I'd go from 4 days a week on campus to 3 days plus a day of clinicals at some point.

I am not really that concerned either way; it will be what it is. I just would like to know what my weeks are going to look like for the first semester (and when the online work is going to get done--good thing I'm a night owl!). Any information would be appreciated!

On tenterhooks waiting to hear back...

We were on campus 2 days most weeks first semester and 3 days other weeks when we had lab, which was lab was the first 5 weeks before we started clinical. Clinical first semester was 2 days a week, for 8-9 weeks I think it was. Oh yeah, and some people had Theory as a hybrid course, so they had to meet on campus once a month for that.

During the summer we were there for 3 days a week for Med/Surg with 2 days in the hospital for clinical. We did have a few labs, so a couple weeks it was 4 days a week on campus. For psych (also in the summer...but the first half from May-end of June) lecture was one day a week and clinical 2 days a week.

For this fall we were only on campus one day a week....but all day (3 classes). No lab this semester. Then we had one day of clinical in the hospital for OB, and then one day of clinical for public health (schools, community centers etc). Some people had Research online, others had it hybrid (me) and had to come to campus once a month for that...so some weeks on campus it was twice a week.

Spring semester so far, according to the schedule, we are on campus once a week...all day Mondays (3 classes again). There are about 4 Saturdays where we will meet as well. This semester is our immersion, so we will also be in our setting (example, I am doing OB) for between 24-32 hours a week. We need 400 clinical hours this semester.

In terms of your online course, that will be Patho/Pharm first semester and Patho in the fall. The professor is actually in FL. Anyways, she is great...very organized and breaks everything down into modules each week. I found it very manageable.

If there is anything else I can help you out with, let me know.

I have a question regarding transfers...is there a way to start a program at GBCC and transfer into the direct entry program. It seems like most nursing programs that are accerlated start at different parts of the year. This might be a confusing question, but if someone could give me some feedback. Thanks!!!

Thanks for all the info! I am glad to hear about the fall schedule; I don't mind driving, but it will be nice to have it all on one day instead of two or three short days.

You mentioned summer; from the Time and Room schedule for 2009, it appeared that there was some overlap, but your description seems like we have two distinct, consecutive classes. Also, do you remember when you were actually finished for the summer before fall classes started? We're trying to get some plans together and can't really do much about that until I know what's happening in August. I'm thinking that everything might be pushed a little later this year because of January term.

I'm so excited to start in just 12 days! Unbelievable how fast this time has gone by, from taking A&P in 2007-2008 to starting real classes. I'm glad I took an extra year off to be home with my youngest child, but I'm champing at the bit to get started on this at long last...

They actually split summer into two. The first 5 weeks were Psych (lecture and clinical) and the last 6 weeks were Med/Surg (class and clinical). I would say for summer, be prepared to be at UNH most of the week and be in clinical the days that you are not. Its a full 5 days a week in summer.

We had 2 weeks off in May and the same in August.
