My grandfather is rushed by ambulance to the ER because of serious chest pains.. not even a week ago he was admitted into the hospital for the SAME thing and was told he had a mild heart attack.

We get the ER and no one is to be found.. he says his pain is at a 10, he's concerned, uncomfortable, and in pain.. We get a RUDE nurse who doesnt even look at us in the eye or even look at the pateint.. just says "the doctor will be in"

Then the doctor.. omg, I am so sick of these arrogant doctors.. treating his situation like it was nothing, I do NOT care how many people you see in your shift with the same type of sypmtoms you do NOT treat a patient like they are not worthy of your concern.

They started treating him as if he was havign some mild gas.. well now the medical staff is running around because everything is worse now and they think he is having a heart attack!

This hospital treated me terriable when I was in the ER too. UGH! I cannot stand when people dont take their patients concern or medical situation seriously.. Who cares how many patients you see.. THIS patient is not used to this sort of thing.

Im in School now, getting my pre-reqs done for nursing.. im telling ya, this feild ****** me off and im not even in it yet.. I dont think I wanna work in a hospital for a long period of time. I wanna be in the field, but this arrogance that is carried with it just drives me nuts!!\

I completely appreciate your frustration and disgust with the system. Just be prepared...RN school clinical rotations will test nearly every ethical bone in your body. I started to feel like I was going to nursing school on Mars because often I would find things r/t patients quite concerning...but no one else (primary RN,MD, etc., ) seemed the least bit concerned...DON'T GIVE UP!!! We need nurses like you....desperately. I think that our society often assumes that because someone works in the health field, that they must really care about people. This should never be assumed. Prior to RN school I had blind faith in the system...now, after knowing what I know and seeing what I have seen, I would be scared to death to be admitted.

A license in nursing is just that...the most important traits of being a nurse can never be taught...

I've heard a lot of comments like that about SNHMC. Even people that used to work there hated it.

i am not surprised by what you've experienced... i used to work in a hospital right outside of charlotte, nc, called presbyterian hospital huntersville. they claimed that they are the best in healthcare, but the truth was they were not. they were best in covering up stories like yours and encouraging behaviors like that. the management did not care at all, the physicians would order tons of unnecessary studies, just to pretend they are doing something, some of the staff was great, but there were quite few nurses that were awful, and no one seamed to care. patients were treated badly and when the patients complained, management would order food or give them a gift card, and things kept going on and on like that. not every hospital is bad, but this one.... was quite bad... the worst part was if anyone had the guts to stand up and say anything they got shut down very fast... i left this place, but i am sure nothing has changed, and management still does not care. they rather cover up the problem rather than dealing with it. they preached one thing, but did totally different thing... i believed that they are different and i had found a place to work where patients are treated with dignity and would received excellent healthcare, but that was not the case... so i feel your pain and have seen it from both sides... so go on and finish nursing school and then remember this experience forever and try to make a positive difference in someone's life. :nurse:

I was in the ED at SNHMC for severe abdominal pain - lucky me... doc shift change. 1st doc was great. 2nd doc was a complete &^%$# Totally arrogant. Said he'd send me home with Vicodin and I told him I didn't like Vicodin because it makes me nauseous. He got sarcastic and said, "oh... so what do you like?" AS IF I were drug-seeking. I like Advil. If I need more than that, they shouldn't have been kicking me out. He said he needed the bed and gave me an overly ambitious bolus of Fentanyl. Made me want to puke - literally. I woke up at home in the middle of the night screaming in agony (literally) but couldn't imagine waiting another 4 hours in the waiting area to be seen by that pompous jerk, only to be thrown out like garbage again and treated like a drug-seeking addict. To be fair, my husband was there in June and had a fantastic doctor (female of course - all the good ones are female) - great sense of humor, totally willing to answer any and all questions, treated him like an adult, confident but not arrogant, didn't refer to him as "8" (in other words, room #8 - this happened to me there), etc. I have mixed feelings about the doctors there. I haven't had a lot of luck with their cardiologists, either.
