LPN test for Mass RN Student and jobs

U.S.A. New Hampshire

Hi all. I live in Boston and am currently in the 2nd to last semester in an RN program from which I will graduate this December (2008). I learned this past week I would be able to take the LPN exam after this semester (Maternity and PEDS) but that I would NOT be able to get reciprocity in Mass.

So, essentially, I would only be able to work in NH as an LPN, or work in MA as a CNA/PCA.

At the hospital where I work as a PCA, many nurses work 2 12's on the weekends and get paid for 36 hours. Does anyone know of any hospitals that do this in NH. I'm about an hour's drive.

So if anyone could point me to any hospitals they might be able to recommend that would be really great. I also have to realize that fewer hospitals are hiring LPN's.

It would seem that if I could get such a gig, I would probably make the hour or so drive each way 2x a week. This way I could at least get some nursing experience in before I graduate from the RN program in December.

The NCLEX-PN would also be a good primer for the reguler NCLEX.

My other alternative is to continue to work as a CNA/PCA in Mass.

Anyone know of LPN salaries for NH? Also, any thoughts or comments, or any other ideas you may have would be greatly appreciated as well.

Thanks!

J

Pretty confusing eh? I went thru the same stuff when I wanted to work in MA. Their rules (MA) state you have to have graduated from a program and where the LPN is only halfway, you haven't technically graduated. A pain the butt!

Not sure what the pay rates are as I chose to wait it out. But somewhere on this thread is a list of hospitals and links you could check out for hiring.

Hi,

I am very curious to how you made out with this. I am thinking about taking my NH LPN exam, but will it ever carry over to MA.. I too was in a RN program but do not have enough hours to qualify for the MA LPN boards. I called the board and they said they a NH LPN license will carry over right away. They said that you do not have to work any specific amount of hours just fill out the application. I then called Professional Creditential Services who handle all of MA licensing applications and they said that it is up to the board. Any advice would be great!
