So excited to begin program! (CSN Spring '10)

i know that i'm a little insane given the intensity of any rn program, but i just bought my books yesterday, and for the first time ever i am actually interested in the readings! i just hope i can keep up this momentum and enthusiasm for 2 years! how do my classmates feel going in to this? :D

What was the grand total for all your books?? Do they make you buy them all at one in a package??

There is a book bundle you have to buy that is $743, and then for the 4 additional books it was around $125. Not sure if you caught this at orientation yesterday though, but in the tidbit of the syllabus they showed it looks like there are a couple chapters out of several books due for each week, so I would recommend buying the books all at once anyways because they are all different and required. Once you see the books you can see how they are all necessary.

And are all the books the special CSN editions that you can't find online? They love to do that at CSN, I have so many books that I can't sell back because they switched editions on me and amazon won't take them cause they are custom.

I am trying to figure out if it's possible to buy them individually online, and save some money.

I'm not sure why you would want to sell a lot of the books back, such as your dictionaries, study guides, even a few of the texts. Plus the books are chosen by Elsevier, not CSN, so nothing is customized for CSN.

No, I was referring to past books like my history book and soc book. The nursing books I am sure I will keep. I just want to get all the ISBN numbers for them so I can buy them separately and save some money.

Congrats to all the Spring '10 nursing students. I am a 2nd semester nursing student. Last semester I tried to save money on my books and looked into buying them separately. I found that by the time you order them, pay shipping and paying for the online course codes, you have not saved any money. Plus by buying the bundle you are getting the capability to download your main books on your computer. Some people used them instead of the hard copies. I liked it for searching for information on papers. Where you can save money is printing your lecture ppts at the computer labs. Paper and print cartridges can get expensive. In my opinion just bite the bullet and buy the bundle. You will find out that there are bigger fish to fry this semester. :twocents:

Go with what WTXgrl said and buy the books from the bookstore. Elsevier makes it so that you can not purchase the books anywhere else but from them in some way, shape or form. I wanted to sell my books from last semester because I only used them on my computer but of course they have a fail safe to prevent that $869 loss that God knows they can't afford...:madface: I won't get started with that.

Congrats again on getting in. Keep reading little by little because it will get to a point where you don't possibly have time to read and watch all the videos that you have to and study for both 101 and 125 tests which are in the same week for the first 3 exams to make it all more difficult. Looking back the material is VERY easy, however it is the stress that will be put on you to juggle studying for 2 exams in the same week (usually) is what makes it so difficult.

Pace yourself because there isn't a single week you are going to be able to slack off (not even spring break). If you would really like to learn different and great ways to study to be successful you should join the school student nurses' association. I plan to have study sessions each week during school through this entire semester (one in the am and one in the evening). Our SNA is having the back pack station the first week of school. It is a great way to meet your fellow classmates from all semesters and to get yourself even more excited! If you are interested in helping out and learning how to earn extra credit toward your final 101 grade let me know . Or you can sign up in the K building where the mailboxes are located.

Also, the state student nurses' association is having its first convention on Jan. 16th. There will be a VERY helpful NCLEX review which I have said a million times and I apologize if you have already heard but it is worth the money. EVERY test you take in nursing school is NCLEX style, so don't think that it won't benefit you because you aren't taking the NCLEX test for 2 years...it does help. Plus theauthor of Pharmacology Made Insanely Easy will be teaching a class in the afternoon...

I'm in the program now, 1st semester. It's not possible to post inside info on the CSN nursing program. Someone will get in trouble! Besides, CSN faculty knows this site for sure. Allnurses will definitely delete any syllabus/nursing program info. on any school (LEGAL privacy issues). I hadn't seen any syllabus or nursing assignments posted on this site or any site at all. If there is one, I'll be the first one to find out for sure ;) :rolleyes:.

I remember the first time I saw the CSN syllabus last year, I suddenly got a headache from it! It's overwhelming! It doesn't matter what school you go to. It's just a question on how much money you're willing to pay! You'll just pay MORE for private schools (NOT for a better education), but just to *hopefully* be treated better! Remember:

Private schools want profit, they NEED their students. State schools don't have business people to answer to.
