New grad salary:)

U.S.A. Nevada

Hi :) i just wanted to ask what is the salary range for new grad here in las vegas?? I applied in a sub acute/rehab facility and the offer was 25/hr? A friend told me who is also a new grad and no experience that in her facilty which is a rehab too that her salary is 30/hr.

I agree with you one of my friend who is based here in nv as well told me its a little low. It is a rehab facility and most of rehab pays 27 for starting. The employer told me that i cant ask and tell others about my salary! That made me suspicious if theyvare paying me right:( im not sure really! Hahahaha

It's normal for them to say don't talk About pay. It can upset people and cause issues so at most jobs that's basically the rule. :-) nothing to be suspicious of. An example of this is when I worked a petsmart and made $2 more than the other cashiers and I had a lot of experience with animals from working in vets and I was moving to a different position soon after I started. I'm sure those people would have been upset knowing that even though my position would be changing.

Specializes in Med/Surg/Tele.

New grad on a med surg floor in a Vegas Hospital will make about $28 and some change per hour. 2 years experience will get ya $30 and some change. There is night and weekend differential. You will have 6-8 patients. Majority, have CNAs round the clock.

Thank you, "Pairofshues"! I see that you have experience in Med/Surg. Did you participate in a new grad program here in Las Vegas? If so, I would love to hear more about your experiences. I understand that it is the "expectation" that every new grad do at least 2 years of Med/Surg before specializing. This makes sense because it seems that Med/Surg is a nursing environment that would give one the broadest experience. I have also heard that Med/Surg can be quite brutal, so it kinda scares me a little bit. So, if there is anything more that you can share about new grad Med/Surg in Las Vegas it would be so very much appreciated by those of us who have not yet reached that part of our journey...

I started in a new grad program in the Valley health sys at $29 base pay plus $2/hr differential and $1/hr weekend pay plus 4 hour weekend bonus.

I am a new grad (CSN class of Dec '14) and I've been working for Valley Health System for about a month now. I got this job one week after nclex. I'm on a surgical floor (ortho) and so far it's fantastic. They really give their new grads what they need to succeed and I consider myself lucky to have landed this opportunity. With that being said, there is no expectation that new grads must do 2 years of MedSurg before moving onto a specialty. Several of my classmates have landed jobs in NICU, ER, L&D/PP, Peds, Nursery, PACU and other specialties. The majority of us are working in MedSurg, but that's where the jobs are.

I am very much interested in critical care and I intend to move to ICU as soon as I am able to but you don't have to do that. Do what makes you happy and an opportunity will come, if you're patient and persistent. Are you currently in nursing school?

Thank you Christina731. This is fantastic news! I have applied to the ADN program at CSN, awaiting acceptance into the Fall 2015 cohort. I just tend to think ahead in order to help me "keep my goals in front of me". :o) I like to make sure I have researched my future path to the greatest extent possible. I have read many of your posts on here and have felt strongly encouraged by you! The way you "give back" by answering questions of those who are following in your footsteps is so very much appreciated! I hope that someday I can do the same for others. Congratulations on your new job! I know you have worked hard to get to where you are today.
