Nevada New Grad

I am currently a nursing student but am looking to move next door to Nevada once I graduate. I have done some research on the hospitals in the Las Vegas area and have noticed a lack of new grad programs as compared to other states. Is Nevada known for not being new grad friendly?

Just wanting to know from people who have personally experienced it or someone with some more relevant information since all the posts I have heard .

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

Hi.

Las Vegas area isn't too friendly/welcoming to new grad RN's. I'm not sure why, it's odd.

There are some big players in town:

UHS- Valley Health System

HCA

Dignity Health

UMC trauma center

That's basically all the hospital systems. HCA and Valley Health have new grad programs. I like VHS. HCA pays more though.

I will keep my eyes peeled for any and all new grad programs from the ones you have listed. I was hoping to get into the ICU since I am considering CRNA in the future so maybe it would be best for me to stay in Utah and just get this experience under my belt. Seems like its a tricky market out there in Nevada.

That's what I did. I was a new grad in Utah into the ICU. After I had experience then I tried out Vegas. Pay is way better, go for it

Oh wow small world, any recommendations on hospitals in Utah? Also how is Nevada compare to Utah in terms of life as a nurse?

Intermountain Healthcare has several new grad residencies throughout the state, and they allow for new grads into specialty areas. Same with University of Utah.

I would recommend going for either of those companies.

Nevada nursing = High pay, less stress, worse healthcare

Utah nursing= Low pay, great healthcare, moderate stress

I just graduated with my BSN and will be moving to Vegas over the summer. The market there is rough for new grads from what I've found. I've applied to several positions but my best luck was networking on facebook and indeed to get recruiters contact info. Thankfully I was able to get in touch with a recruiter at one of the hospitals but they told me to wait until the fall cohort to reapply. Your best bet is getting into one of the StaRN programs. I know there are smaller rehab hospitals that are taking in new grads as well. After applying, I was under the assumption it would start later and I would have time to take my nclex, as most new grad programs start in the spring or fall, but they were ready to have me work the next week and again, I don't have my license yet.

I just graduated from an ASN program, and had a job with a hospital in Vegas two months ago. Official offer came in two weeks ago. UHS seems to be more new grad friendly than other areas.
