Moving to LV

U.S.A. Nevada

Published

]Hello All,

]I'm moving to LV, in June since my family lives there I would have help with my kids ages 1 and 5.

]I'm coming from california/bay area. I wanted to know if there was a difference in the pre req's. I started going to a community college in Cali but it's very hard doing so while working full time and having the kids. I'm not even sure what's the best school in LV.

]Any advice would be great..

] Thanks

there are alot of RN schools in las vegas , you may have to check out the different programs and see which one suits your needs. you can try college of southern nevada, apollo college, nevada state college, unlv, and i am sorry i know there's more but i don't know the names at this time. ggod luck in your future

Good luck with the move. Let us know how things go when you and the kids get settled.

The BON website has a list of all the approved nursing programs in Las Vegas. I think there are around 6 or 7 now. CSN has a part time program that might really work out for you. As for prereq's I know they must be a bit different because I had a friend from cali who moved here and she needed to retake her anat and phys because in cali they broke them into two separate classes and here its A&P I and A&P II. CSN and UNLV won't let you just walk in and talk to an advisor if you are not a student there. But Nevada State College will (my school). They have open advising one day a week and you can just walk in with your transcripts even if you are not a student and meet with the advisor. Also, I would recommend you not start school right away. They will nail you with out of state tuition. If you wait a year you will get instate which is sooo much cheaper. Good luck!

Hye jordiemom,

Im kind of in the same predicament as you. My wife graduated last semester from the nursing program in UNLV and loved the exp. she had. I believe UNLV is more recognized than the other schools in Las vegas. So if you do decide to attend UNLV, here is their chart of transferable credits they will accept from the list of schools in CA

http://financialaid.unlv.edu/dars/tcetables/#state-CA

Just pick your school, find your classes, and the rest says is all.

If you do have classes that wont transfer over, you can challenge that with a certain form. I dont know what form is it, but get with the nursing advisor and he/she will get you through it.

Hope that helps!
