Any midwives in Omaha??

U.S.A. Nebraska

Published

Hi everyone!!

I currently live in Miami, Florida and just started school. I am currently working on my AA in pre-nursing and after that I will get my BSN and then my MSN. I want to be a certified nurse midwife, and me and my boyfriend both want to move out of Florida within the next two years. Miami is such a disaster!! But anyways, his family lives in Omaha so there is a very strong possibility that that is where we would move.

So, I just want to know if there is any midwives out there in Omaha that are willing to say what there average salary is or if they know what the salary for a midwife is along with the # of years of experience that comes along with that salary.

Also, can anyone tell me of any really good school in Omaha where I would be able to get my BSN and MSN??

Thank you all very much for your time...:nuke:

I can't help you with the mid-wife question, but I can tell you that all of the nursing schools in Omaha are really high quality. If you already have your pre-reqs out of the way, you should look into University of Nebraska Medical Center, and Clarkson College. Clarkson is a bit pricey (5k/ sem), but they offer a discount if you work at the Nebraska Medical Center. Creighton is another option. Nebraska Methodist allows you to apply to their accelerated program with only an AA degree. In my opinion, you would get the highest quality of education at UNMC. Clarkson is a close second. All of these programs offer MSN degrees, but I am not aware of any midwifery programs.

There is also College of Saint Mary, Iowa Western, and Metro Community College, but these are all ADN programs. Stay away from Kaplan!!

I am from Omaha, currently in midwifery school.

There are NO midwifery education programs in Omaha/Nebraska!

Some people choose to attend Frontier distance program and do their clinical rotations in Omaha though.

If you really want to be a midwife, then look into the laws that govern practice. Unless things have changed, here in Nebraska it is against the law for a midwife to attend a home birth, with penalty of losing your license. There are other restrictions, too.

:twocents: It is backwards and ridiculous! :twocents:

Iowa seems to be a lot friendlier to midwives and Council Bluffs, IA is just across the river from Omaha.

But aren't certified-nurse midwives allowed to work in hospitals? I know that direct entry midwifery is illegal in some states, but I want to be a certified-nurse midwife which I've been told is legal in all 50 states.

Yes, I believe that is true. I just wanted you to be familiar with the laws and regulations in Nebraska so you wouldn't be disappointed.
