Wow... I Took NCLEX-RN Today! 8-24-13

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Well I took the NCLEX-RN today and the computer shut off at 81 questions. I immediately tried the PVT and got the good pop up! I had 26 SATAs, 2 drag and drop, 2 exhibits, and 8 medications. :yeah: The SATAs were very straight forward and easier than the practice questions I previously encountered. My test had a little bit of everything like psych, peds, maternity, medsurg, neuro, infection control, priority, and delegation.

I found the test to come right out of my Hurst review packet. I had a lot of questions whereas I had to understand why a nurse would do a particular intervention for certain situations/complications. However, it was not as difficult as I expected. I remember thinking, "Why are the questions not getting harder?".

I used Hurst and Kaplan to prepare for the test for about a month prior. In my opinion the Kaplan Q Trainers 5-7 were ALOT HARDER than the NCLEX. However, the Hurst tests were comparable to the NCLEX. My scores are as follows:

Kaplan Q Trainers

4-58%

5-63%

6-63%

7-61%

Hurst Tests

1-91/125

2-85/125

3-85/125

4-89/125

5-85/127

6-didn't take

As you can see my scores were not the greatest but I still got the good pop up and according to everyone on the site that's a fantastic sign I passed :) Here's to hoping the PVT is accurate. I will keep you posted when I receive my unofficial results.

Thanks to everyone that encouraged me on the site and the prayers that were sent up. I personally stalked this site everyday for hours reading about people experience with the NCLEX. It helped me to be familiar on the areas to study and introduced me to the Hurst review. God is good and I know he blessed my efforts today. I hope my post helps to ease the readers' anxiety the way others eased mine. Good luck to all of the future test takers :)

Did u do watch the videos on kaplan too or just the qbanks?

No the videos were super boring. I just used the QT and the sample tests with the Kaplan. Honestly I used the Kaplan to test my content understanding. When I felt I was as ready as possible, I went to take the test.

Congrats!! Well deserved!! I test sep 5th. I have been using the Kaplan book 2013-2014 and plan on looking in the Hurst book. Can't wait to see those official RN initials. Congrats again!!!

Thanks :) The 5th will be here before you know it.

I am doing Hurst review and Kaplan mini q bank online, thank u for the prayers:)

Should I focus more on the hurst content?

I have been listening to the video over and over I don't know this is enough

I watched the Hurst videos multiple times and completed the work book for each body system and specialty area. I focused more on the Hurst. The Hurst q reviews are very similar to the actual NCLEX. I would then test my content understanding with the Kaplan questions because they are harder than Hurst and contain more analysis than application. I hope this helps. Please keep me posted, but I know you will be successful :)

Hello Everyone,

This my first time on this very informative site.

I took NCLEX RN on the Aug 7 I am a foreign graduate nurse. The exam was very challenging, but after waiting for 48 hrs I had a big smile on my face at the end of it all.

I will like to share my journey, and how I succeeded in passing the NCLEX RN

I started to study for the exam in May 26th 2013.

Firstly, I made an 8wks study timetable, then used an unoccupied room in my home as a study area.

I placed everything needed in that one area.

I worked full time and studied 5days a wk for 5hrs.

I studied Saunders 5th edition ,LaCharity, and Kaplan 2012-2013 I read them alL, and did the questions and answers.

Got a Free online NCLEX review downloaded it on my phone, and listened to it when I was on the go.

I listened to you tube NCLEX topics, and made notes on things that was not so familiar to me.

I couldn't afford any of the online tuitions like Hurst ,Kaplan and all the others out there.

Therefore I used every free NCLEX website that had questions ,rationales, and answers.

On the day before my exam, I treated myself to dinner then went to bed early.

I was very apprehensive as I entered the examination area got very nervous. Before the exam began I prayed for guidance and calmness.

At 76 after 1hr and 45mins my computer screen went blue, I was so petrified .

I left the exam room feeling very depressed, and started to second guess myself. I said, to myself maybe I should of waited a little longer to write the exam.

I sat for 1 hr contemplating my faith crying my eyes out in the lobby, I then drove home and slept for hours.

The next day I visited the Nursing Board website and here it was in bold letters PASS.

I began to cry uncontrollably, and mumbling thank you to God in the same breath, then I called my best friend to give her the good news. Of course everyone believed in me, except me

At last, my dream was realized I can now say that I am a RN in USA.

I am already working as an RN where I am presently employed. I contribute my success to hard work and discipline.

Lastly, I encourage all the foreign and local NCLEX test takers that you can do it too. Here is no one formula to taking NCLEX ,but this is what worked for me.

If anyone out there needs any help email@[email protected]

Thank you.
