When is the best time to take nclex?

How soon is too soon to test for the nclex? I graduated aug 6th & will be testing sept 7th. During school i used my saunders book off & on to help study & have been studying since maybe the middle of july up until now. I just finished the ncsbn course yesterday & i was on it everyday 4 the whole 3 weeks also using exam cram & my saunders! I feel lk im ready but anxiety & panic is starting to SET IN especially when i read some stories on here about people failing & hv taking the test more than 3 times im lk OMG! WHERE IS MY BROWN PAPER BAG 2 BREATHE IN! Some people say the longer you wait to test the harder it will be & its not possible to KNOW EVERYTHING! Am i testing to early?! I know i'll kick my self in the face if i reschedule! the only other saturday in my area is in OCTOBER! Thats too far & im getting BURNED OUT studying! Woosaa woosaaaaa! I GOT THIS! I WILL PASS THE NCLEX! I WILL PASS THE NCLEX!

If you are taking the NCLEX PN, I have found that a good 4-6 weeks of review has yielded great results. However, how exactly are you reviewing for the NCLEX? What exactly is the routine?

Yes its for the nclex pn. This is my routine; from 10-2 i read the exam cram book & whatever section i cover i go to that section n the nclex book & do the questions from both of those take a break & from around 8-12 i do nothing but questions. When i was doing the ncsbn stuff i spent 4 hrs a day on it & did another 4 hrs of questions. My issue is i always 2nd guess myself & dont always go with my gut & when i get it wrong im lk " dang i started to put that" or " i knew that but it sounded too easy"

Grads tell me that all the time after they take the NCLEX, "the answers seemed to simple and easy". I'll tell you the same thing I've told numerous grads, "it seems easy maybe because it really is easy, why must it be difficult?" If you are truly prepared for the NCLEX you'll find that test to be very easy.

You obviously don't have to follow anything that I am telling you, I am just merely offering suggestions and guidance on how to review for the test. Whenever you get a chance, use whatever testing software you have (preferrably Saunders if you have it). Take 100 questions on exam/test mode on client needs categories then select all of the categories. After you are done, read ALL of the rationales then post results here and I will go over your results with you.

Friday-Sunday is no NCLEX zone at my house so if you post results on those days I probably won't see it until Monday.

Hi! U seen to know a lot about the nclex pn! Would you mind sharing your knowledge in helping to get through it? Maybe some basic points or tips/ideas? My worst enemy are the SATA. Any tips for those? And what are drag and drop? Are those the prioritization questions? Do u happen to see a lot of the same Questions year after year on the nclex?

SATAs on the NCLEX is usually a good sign because that implies that you are getting application/analysis questions and not just knowledge based questions. Getting them right or wrong however is a totally different story. Depending on what kind of testing software you are using, there should be an area on your testing software that will allow you to take "alternate item questions". Those questions will cover your SATAs, drag and drop, hot spots, audio and other types of alternate items. An alternate item question is a question that is not your traditional multiple choice. Take practice tests on those so that you become more familiar with them.

The NCLEX that you will be taking is tailored to your skill level. That is the adaptive nature of the exam so it really is impossible for me to say what types of questions you will see on yours. Using whatever testing software you have, take 100 questions on ALL of the client needs categories and post it on here so that we can see areas that you need to go over. Without practice test results, your guess is as good as mine on areas that you need to focus on.

Can you help me prepare? I will be taking the NCLEX PN for the third time soon, waiting on ATT but the first time I got ATT and scheduled a week later due to everyone I knew passing, I failed. I waited 45 days and retested in July but I was only reading the cram book, not doing questions. Please advise!

You will pass! Know you contact precautions, know about cath steps procedure cause you may have some drag and drop question, know maslows, and about delegating tasks. Always keep your patient safe.
