What to study if you have failed the NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have taken the NCLEX twice and failed but with drastically different results. The first time I studied about a week, I sat exactly one month to the day from graduation. I had test accommodation in school but did not apply for them for the NCLEX. I ended up with all 265 rushed to the point I was literally speed reading the last 60 yet the computer kept going. I got my CPR report which indicated in every area I was near the passing standard except in one it was above. The 2nd time I got serious and studied my but off using Saunders questions, some NCLEX mastery and the nursity review which is strategy based. I though I did the right thing studying and I got extra time so I can relax and take them as they come. It shut off at 75 a part of me was excited yet concerned. I failed and not only did I faill my CPR report indicated below standard in half the categories and near passing in the other half. So now I'm getting ready for round 3 in a few days. I did the NCSBN review which I'm almost done with and Lacharity and NCLEX mastery. I even got a private tutor who after meeting twice said she thought I would pass this time. Everyone has a different way to study and what worked for th. Did anyone fell NCSBN was on par? I also got an RX anti anxiety med from the Dr for this attempt. It's getting frustrating!

I can only speak from experience and I know that I did well with Kaplan. I knew a lot of people who were successful using it, so I used it and it worked for me. A lot of people don't want to pay the price, but I feel like it is well worth the money. After paying for nursing school, it's not wise to skimp on study materials for the NCLEX (in my opinion) - plus, if you don't pass, they will let you take the course again or refund your money or something (not sure what exactly...but they DO offer some sort of guarantee)

so one of my girlfriends whom im close with did def. have your issue.

this is what i told her to do its up to you if you think itll fit you cuz shes the leisure study person and has massive anxiety with reading....

1. Get the used version of the kaplan content book = READ IT itll take you 1 full week to go through it. write down notes of stuff you will forget and or dont know.

2. the hurst review its actually ONLINE for free just type in hurst mp3 and you will find links. LISTEN to those.

3. if you purchased kaplan complete the question trainers aim for 56+ even though kaplan says 60+, i have known people who have gotten below 60 and aced it. IF you cannot afford the kaplan q, trainers, that too is online you just have to google it kaplan question trainers pdf and manually take the test (pen and paper)

4. Get the 21 day NCSBN - NOW...this webstie has questions, I DID NOT recommend my friend do the questions but just become familiarized with the content. and it should take you less than 21 days to complete if you just go through a few sections a day. theyre decent reads. AGAIN, what you dont remember PRINT IT or copy paste it.

5. if you have time fr your NCSBN take questions

and last but not least

6 = REVIEW YOUR NOTES YOU MADE DURING KAPLAN + NCSBN + questions you may have gotten wrong. IF you did poorly on a q. trainer, RE-DO the q. trainer.

dont be frustrated, i knwo its easier said then done but once you have a PLAN you should be set doll!

Oh forgot to mention

the used version of the kaplan content book i purchased it for 80 cents on amazon!

it doesnt have to be the recent edition
