Hello all,

I'm recently diagnosed osteoarthritis knee and ulcerative colitis. I am heart broken don't know what to do now. I failed twice and was preparing for another attempt, but after being diagnosed with UC and OA, I don't feel like doing anything. I have stopped preparing. I read some thread about how nurse had to leave their job coz of OA. Though being on treatment, I keep asking myself will I ever be able to work as RN??? I cry everyday.. Don know what to do, where to go. Do anyone know nurses working with knee OA??

I had a friend who had JVA. She was a very determined, resilient human being who was dealing with severe osteoarthritis in all her major joints that caused her pain to shoot up to 6-7/10 with activity, which is (as I'm sure you know) the majority of a nurse's work.

Please ensure that you're caring for yourself appropriately. Seek medical help if you need it. And then, evaluate what you're willing to do for nursing and for your career. It is a far cry from impossible.

Thank you Soldiernurse. I am doing what're ever seems to help with it. My family suggests me to look for alternative career but, honestly my heart cries thinking that I will never be able to work as a nurse ever. I am just looking to read or hear that someone have came out of OA and is working as a nurse. :(

The beauty of nursing is there are so many choices. You can still work as a nurse without doing actual patient care. You can work as an RN doing telecare, or you can be a research nurse too. Remember as a nurse we have a duty and obligation to go beyond physical care. So do not let your OA diagnosis weaken you and do not give up. Analyze your area of weakness and work to strengthen it and pray, pray, pray. You will be an RN:)!

Thank you so much kbr2014 for such encouraging words... I will fight and will be what I love to be.
