Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

After reading all of the lovely comments and inspirational stories about NCLEX RN. I promised myself that after I finished sitting my exam I would also share my experience. I graduated from a post diploma RN program jn December of 2016. I was formally an RPN or LPN (in some jurisdictions) who went back to school to finish my degree to be an RN. Anyway, after I finished. I was draiiined and worn out! Did not want to look at a book again let alone study! So I took a break. However, after alot of pushing and motivation from my boyfriend I decided to study in May after almost 6 month break. I started out completely lost, I did not know where to start.

My program did not adequately prepare us for NCLEX so I did not know what to expect, I started doing some practice questions online but after a while I realized that my content knowledge was severely lacking after doing some research, I came across NCSBN learning extension. I decided to purchase their 3 week course. I must say it was TERRIBLE the content is very dry and very difficult to absorb. Also the questions dont reflect the content in the chapters and the rationales are not detailed. I decided I needed a better content review so I researched and came across Kaplan and Hurst both very pricey but, after doing more research I chose Hurst, I love the online videos! They are very helpful, and I liked the work sheets that they give you to download so you can fill it in as you watch the lectures. It was informative. However, I was unable to keep up with payments so my account eventually got canceled so I could nkt continue. Some time later my friend recommended Uworld and saunders text book. Uworld is a God send! I love the rationales very detailed! The pictures and the questions are just like NCLEX!

I know its just a Q bank but i feel you can use it for content because the rationales are so detailed. In tbe last few days leading up to my exam. I didnt bother opening Saunders and just stuck with U world. I ended up buying two 30 day subscriptions. The first time my chances of passing were very low on the diagnostic! At first the questions were so hard i was averging in the 40s made me feel like I knew nothing! I was like did I miss that lecture??? LOL relax! Its normal!!NCLEX is at very high level in order for you to be prepared for anything. So trust me when I say there is a method to all their madness!! The second diagnotic, my chances of passing were high! averaging around 50s. I recieved my ATT July 4th, Then I booked the exam for Aug 2, which I decided to purchase Uworld again for another 30days.

So, I could do the predictor test again now that I have an actual date booked the first one I was borderline pass (based on my performance, the system cannot predict whether I would pass or fail) and then 2 weeks before I wrote,I did the second predictor test. Chance of passing: Very High! That motivated me to keep going! The only person on that exam that I was gonna kill was the NCLEX exam itself! I was determined! And my scores got better and better averaging 60s and 70s. Wow! I had come along way from knowing next to nothing, coming from a program that thought critical thinking is based on writing papers. To knowing how to read ECG, prioritize and disaster plan. I felt ready!

So come exam day, I arrived about 40 minutes early. I was signed in right away, took my seat said a prayer and began, I could feel my heart beating in my throat and my palms were so wet! LOL man it was tough! I felt I made so many guesses. But I decided to choose my answers and stick with it When I got to the 70s I started to panick. What if I have to keep going? This exam is so hard! How am I going to tell my family I failed!?? Me writing the exam was a suprise lol. Now its all going down the drain. The last 2 or 3 questions I knew I answered right and they were all prioritization after I hit submit on the 75th question. It shut off!! I had to cover my mouth because I almost screamed. I was so happy!! Then doubt started to sink in....

finishing in 75 questions is also bad too! And those questions were damn hard! Is there a possibility that I also failed?? My mind was so numb that I could barely answer the research questions that they give you at the end and the survey. I rushed out of the centre! I just needed to breathe. Honestly if it wasnt for the fact that I felr like a zombie I would have started crying!! Anyway, a few hours later I decided to do the PVT because I dont have access to quick results I am in Ontario, Canada so we have to wait for them to mail our result. Luckily, I found out a few days before that the PVT works in Canada. So I decied to try it got the good pop up! and I will try it again in a few hours! Anyhoo that was my experience, sorry its so lengthy but I really hope it will help someone. Remember to study, pray and believe in yourself! If I can do it so can you!

Passed!!! Recieved my results in fhe mail Aug 9!

Hi I'd just like to ask if you received an "email" from CNO after you passed. (or did they just send you a "mail"?)

You will receive an official letter from the CNO with your results in about one week.
