Pennsylvania GN Obtaining a Texas License - Time line Complications?!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello! I just graduated from Penn State University, but have plans to relocate to the state of Texas this summer. I have called the Board of Nursing twice to confirm the process of obtaining a Texas license.

As far as I knew, the steps were as follows:

1)Application for licensure by exam

2) Fingerprinting for a criminal background check

3) Nursing Jurisprudence test

4) Affidavit of graduation from nursing school

5) register for PearsonVue for NCLEX

But after I completed step one, I was informed on the website that I should have done that 120 days ago. But that it wouldn't be approved until they received the PearsonVue NCLEX registration? Then I found out that the fingerprinting card would be sent through the mail, since I don't currently live in TX to get it done electronically, and take 7-10 days to be received. And that I can't take the Nursing Jurisprudence test for at least 10 days.

During the phone calls with the TX Board of Nursing, no one told me of these complications. Now I'm worried that everything isn't going to get to the right place at the right time and I just spent $300..

Does anyone have any information that can help me?
