NCLEX Retake

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello,

I graduated nursing school in December 2016. I took my NCLEX for the first time in April 2017 and did not pass. I was devastated and took some time off to work and try to prepare myself to take it again. I retook the exam again in March 2018 and did not pass after studying for 8 weeks. I have used Kaplan and hired a private tutor who did not provide me with any question resources, but would go over a weekly assignment of test strategies that were not helpful. I have not had any luck with either resource. On my Kaplan practice exams I was averaging 60-70%, which is why I am having such a hard time trying to figure out what to change about my study habits. I struggle with test anxiety (to the point where I have had a panic attack during an exam in nursing school). I feel like I have a better grasp on how to handle the anxiety, however any suggestions would be great. I am looking for new resources to try so I can schedule my exam for July and hopefully be successful. Please help!

It sounds like you are doing the right things, by getting practice tools and a private tutor. It's okay to fail, we fail in all aspects of our life, but all that matters is how we bounce back.

Anxiety is all too real and can be debilitating. Try using mental practices where you just imagine yourself taking the test. Try to feel that anxiety when you are at home by yourself, breathe through it. Just like the test, anxiety coping is a practice. Good luck, and let me know how you do =]
