Nclex PN need advice and encouragement for the upcoming test december 2013

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello to all nurses and future nurses. I finally scheduled to test on Dec. 26 2013 and having mixed feelings of excitement and anxiety. I'm currently working as a med tech in assisted living full time after I graduated last July, but organizing my time to study and work could be a bit challenging. Just looking for advice and word of encouragement to people in the same shoes and the chances of passing the test that possibly could change my life. I really love nursing and passing this test could be the great start of my chosen career. I really hope I pass the test. So far, I have Saunders, Kaplan, and exam cram third edition. Is there anything else I need to be studying? I am about 5 weeks away... Any advice and encouragement is greatly appreciated!

Specializes in Home health, Med Surg, LTC.

I took my NCLEX in April and passed it successfully on the first try

My advice to you is that do not waste your money on buying alot of study materials. The ones you listed are great. They are the same ones I used. Remember to study content, lab values, prioritization and delegation, things that you learned in fundamental such as- transmission based precautions, PPE (steps to put them on), which patients can be placed in a room together etc. We tend to forget stuff we learned from this class and you will definately be tested on it. TRUST ME. I focused more on Med Surg and less of Fundamentals

On the day of the test Remember.

Get there at most 45 min before your schedule to calm your nerves and get something to eat

During the test, put on the headphones to cancel out noise.... You will hear your heart beat through the headphones (I sure did) and this is ok. Just try to remain Calm

DO NOT PANIC when you get are getting questions pass 85 (85 is the minimum questions you can get). Take your time to answer questions. Do not rush especially when you are on question 200

DO NOT PANIC when you see select all that apply questions

Alot of my peers said they rushed to take the exam . They give you enough time to take the exam. Take your time!!!

It is okay if you run out of time.

Here are the materials I used

ATI- For content review My school uses this

Saunders Comprehensive NCLEX PN review 4th edition (Green book)- Used ONLY the CD for questions- Content Review

Exam Cram- Only used it for the put in order questions. Barely used this book. (wouldnt really buy this book) Less helpful

Kaplan NCLEX-PN Strategies Practice and Review- I used this book for 2 weeks straight leading up to the exam.. Gives you the best strategies. I got the 2011-2012 edition and I passed on the 1st try

I used a NCLEX study guide that is circulating on this site. I used that for the last two weeks leading up to the exam.

Hope this works again when I take my NCLEX RN in a few weeks.

Good luck.

I also finished my schooling in July. I am going on Wed. 12/11/13 for my NCLEX. I am one who has alot of anxiety and don't know about this test. I think the schools give us the anxiety about it and im hoping its not that bad. I have been doing question after question in Kaplan. My scores are not as high as I would like them to be I cant seem to get out of the 60s so you know im freaking out about the NCLEX test. I have heard that there is alottttttttt of select all that apply questions. I hate them questions because I cant get any of them right. I don't know what to do there is always 1 I will leave out or pick one that is wrong. I don't know. I was thinking of pushing the test back but I know me if I don't do it now I will never do it. I want to wish you luck on your test and I will be back Wed night to let you know how I do on mine. I just wish there was a way of getting around the SATA questions because I cant do them. Wish me luck because I will need it.

@sreswc I didn't see this earlier.... Oh wow today was your test... Pls let us know how it went! I'm guessing you'd be done by now. I'm getting close to mine and I will also share my experience with you guys! Wish y'all the luck! And hope this could be a good Christmas gift and new year start for everybody! Keep the hope up for everybody!
