Failed nclex pn twice ... need advice!

Nursing Students NCLEX

So, I graduated May 2017 and took the nclex two weeks later. I failed. Two months later, I retook it with the same results. Both times, I took all 205 questions. When I received my candidate performance report, I was near passing on all areas, nothing below. Now, I'm just stuck. This is what I love and want to do but it's so discouraging seeing "fail" again and again. I've used Kaplan to study as well as the latest Saunders comprehensive book. I bought the nclex mastery app too. All in which I think helped. So, I'm lost from here on out about what to do to change this next test's outcome. Helpppp :(

Dont be discouraged. I literally just got my letter saying that I passed my nclex 5 mins ago. I also took is 2 times and failed. 3rd time is the charm!

What did you do differently the third time? How many questions did you have?

To be totally honest, I studied. The first 2 times I studied like the minimum so it was totally on me why i didnt pass. I also had to learn my studying style and which worked for me. I had like 150 questions? I cant remember exactly what number it stopped at but it was over 100

Wow. Lucky! It took me a little bit more than 3 weeks to get the ATT. I graduated in April and initially scheduled for the NCLEX June 19. Found out I didn't confirm my appointment, so they told me I wasn't scheduled. I guess I was too excited to realize? I went home defeated, and finally signed up and got that confirmation for July 8. The problem is that I had to now go an hour away directly after work. I guess it provided some distraction, since it was a pretty hectic morning.

Honestly, the time between June 19 and July 8, I probably only reviewed for like 5 days. I was over the whole process, and I was in the middle of taking an online class that required way too much reading and writing. My school used ATI, and we were required to use their review "week" thing. After that review, we were all given a paperback workbook that had everything you would need for the NCLEX. All the information is there, but the problem for most people is that just memorizing facts doesn't mean they can apply those facts to scenarios. ATI also had an online component that had practice questions. They were nice, but they were often misspelled/confusing. Also, the rationales for the answers were like, "This is the answer because this is the answer." Seriously.

Please use UWorld. The problem is that it's a subscription service and kind of expensive, but it will be so worth it. I believe I paid $85 just for 30 days, but I think their question bank is like 1200 questions. They have all types of questions for all the systems, peds, OB, psych, geriatrics, meds, etc. They have SATA, point and click, drag, etc. Also, unlike ATI, their rationales are actually helpful. Questions are often accompanied with a couple of paragraphs as to what makes a particular response the more correct answer. With the service you get 2 practice tests that are 85 questions each. And they predict how well you will do on the NCLEX. After you take the tests, you can flip back and forth between the questions and read the rationales. Focus on the rationales, and write (or say out load, screen shot, whatever) anything you missed/don't understand. I would recommend taking the first test either now or 2-4 weeks before your NCLEX date. Then take the second test the week of your NCLEX so you can brush up on concepts you don't remember.

There are many places out there that have practice questions. Nurselabs can be good, although some of the questions aren't too great. And sometimes the answers don't have rationales.

I passed. I don't know how. I got probably 15-20 SATA. One I selected all of the choices and a few there were only 2 choices. There were a lot where a I narrowed the answers to 3 choices where the answer could be 2 of the 3 or all 3. From question 60-85 I thought the questions were getting easier, so I thought I failed. Regardless of how well or poorly you are doing, you need to focus on the current question. Don't lose focus!

Also, my instructors recommended 70-80 questions daily, and the day before the test, don't do anything NCLEX-related. Relax! Take a spa day, Netflix day, beach day, whatever. Good luck! You got this far, you can do it!

Shoot me an email if you want to review the easy way [email protected]

Same boat as you. Have you taken it again?

hi i just took my nclex-pn for the second time i felt really positive i went up to 205! but i got a lot of SATA!!! prioritization, & about 10 drag, uap delegations & a lot of lab questions, oh and a lot of PUD & DVT questions few medication questions as well, but long story short i couldn't take the excitement/curiosity so i did the PVT trick using my unemployment card that has a $0.00 balance & unfortunately i got the "bad pop up" i tony know if maybe i tried it too soon or what? i feel like crap i studied way more than the first time i don't know how else to study I'm so devastated once more but i still have faith that one day i will pass just leaving it to god but i just can't help but to feel discouraged..... does anyone have any advice/study tips?

I couldn't agree more with this comment regarding use of uworld. I feel almost like my success is directly as a result of uworld. The format is so similar to the actual nclex that when I sat down to take it I felt like I was just looking at another uworld practice exam. The rationals are wonderful. So detailed. My worst subject in nursing school was OB and so my luck, of course I got a ton of OB questions. Most SATA. While none of the questions I took on uworld were on there some were worded similar. I was able to think back on some rationals I had previously seen and apply it on the exam.

I walked out of there absolutely certain I had failed. But 2 days later found out otherwise. A friend of mine is going back for her masters and what she told me on my way in was very helpful as well. She said "try and walk in with the attitude that this is the easiest exam you are going to take. In nursing school you had to have what... 80% or higher to pass? Nclex you need a little over a 50!" So while that's not entirely true it helped me with the mindset. I have terrible test anxiety. But to summarize uworld made me feel a bit more comfortable and prepared. A friend of mine took his and failed, I had a few weeks left on my subscription so I gave him my info and he passed. Only negative is $99 for 30 days. But in retrospect worth it.

GOOD LUCK!! YOU GOT THIS!

I graduated 10/25/2019 the first time I took the Nclex I failed at 200 questions, i just took it for the second time the computer shut off around 100 questions an hour later i did the Pvt trick and it took my money so my thought us I failed, I AM SO FRUSTRATED AT THIS POINT!!!
