Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I have been doing Kaplan and my average on the Q Bank was at 48% and now it is at 51% but certainly not good enough. And my Question Trainer scores are even lower then that. I did Hurst. I started with the online and then did a live class (don't waste your money if you already have the online as they are identical right down to the jokes they say in the live class).

I went to an AWFUL school. I graduated with a 3.87 in my BSN, which was Summa Cum Laude. But that means nothing. The school was a joke but after trying to get into an ADN, BSN, or even direct entry MSN program in CA and not succeeding I moved and I am paying the price.

I look up everything on Kaplan even the ones I get right. I have watched and listened to each Hurst video or audio at least a dozen times.

I keep rescheduling my exam. First it was August, then Sept, and now October. I am not going to reschedule again because people who did not go to my school are wondering why I am taking so long and my parents are putting a lot of pressure to at least try. I am not being a pessimist but scoring 51% on the Q bank on Kaplan is a good indicator that I am going to fail.

Plus I am guessing at most of the answers. We used Saunders in a class our last trimester. I know it is awesome but it is like a giant outline and it goes in an ear and out the other.

I have ADHD and the only way I can read a book is if I have an exam coming up but not something like NCLEX.

I am really good in lecture and I feel if I find something that teaches nursing then when I am looking back on my notes and looking things up it will stick. But since I never heard it in school the 1st time around I feel I need that.

I just don't know what to do. Looking for a longer class or a study buddy. I am in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please help!

As a foreign nurse I studied in 3 times harder than any native speaking. I was in 60s% on QBank and 70s% on focused Kaplan tests. When I read here that people had 30 from 75 SATA questions, I went to a book store and studied there focusing on alternative style questions. It saved my life - I passed NCLEX with 75 questions. Kaplan is good but not enough!!!

Understanding of contest is everything - after you read a question you have to ask "What answer this question wants?" For example, if you just got post-op pt - look at surgical side not at urine output which is also important but not at this second. Another question that I ask myself "What condition /information in question/ makes pt unstable or is critical for pt?"

I could not answer one from 75 questions because I did not know a word translation. Did it hurt me? Yes. But how many question I missed because I did not know the material.

I truly wish you good luck!!! NCLEX is not harder than Kaplan.

Lately I am getting 60s on the Qbank which makes me happy. What was the "focused Kaplan tests" you mention? Is that the Question Trainers? Those I am doing worse then the Qbank.

Do you remember the name or author of the book with the SATA questions?
