Can anybody give me an idea of what a starting nurses salary might be coming out of school in the St Louis area? Any help is appreciated.

When I finished at Wash U back in 97, I made 12.34 at Barnes.

It increased to 16/hr at St. John's a year and a half later.

This was all doing cardiac ICU.

I live in Texas now and make double that.

Sorry for the dated response.

A couple of months ago a representative of one of the hospitals came to talk to us nursing students. She said that her hospital pays $15 (.35? .75? can't remember the "cents" part of it) per hour. She also said that all the hospitals in STL pay just about the exact same thing. That would be for a new graduate, no hospital experience, etc. I have not as of yet done my own research to back this up. Hope this helps.

I went back and checked what I had written down; it's $15.25. Again, that was in the spring of this year.

Specializes in hospice.

I am assuming this is LPN pay? if not move to WI....hehe.

No, RN. Can you believe it?

Ok...thats JUST plain wrong.....we bust our butts in school ,get through boards and then have the crap to deal with when we GET our RN...and you get 15.00 an hour???!!!!........just WRONG.....factory workers make more than that, no CPR required....geeez. well, at least where I am , the starting pay is this.......21.00 per hour....then if we work 64 hours a pay period its "critical staffing" so we get an extra like 400.00 on the check....5.00 more per hour on nights or something like that...and an extra 3.00 per hour on weekends...if your on the 12 hour program its even more....so, if you work 12 hours on the weekend on nights 64/a pay period...well, its decent cash....my suggestion......MOVE....hehe

When I graduated from nursing school in S.E Missouri in 1991 I started out at $10 something an hour. I'm sure it's more now. You can make more money in other states, but more isn't always better. I make more in NC but the cost of living is outrageous, & I'm away from my family.

I recently interviewed at another hospital in STL...their starting salary is over $16/hr.

I was appalled by my job search in Missouri. I am originally from Kansas City and have not lived there for five years. The pay was good back then and I don't know what a new grad makes there, but the Ozarks area is paying dirt. I did not realize that St. Louis paid so low as well. Twenty-two years ago, I made ten dollars and some change and I cannot believe how little those wages have increased. I found the home I wanted in the Ozarks and I am going to work in Arkansas. If I work in MO, it will be through an agency.

Why aren't the MONA members fighting this in MO? Probably because if it is like the one I belonged to while living in MO, it was only made up of educators as active members. But, I am moving to the Ozarks as it is exactly where I want to live. I recently made my choice after months of searching, to work in another state. I am going to find a way to politically fight for a change in MO nursing wages as I not only find it an insult, but it just might solve their dilemma of the nursing shortage. I do know that there are hospitals in the Ozark region that are mainly staffed by travel nurses-why shouldn't these jobs be given to Missouri residents? Now, the only decision I have to make is which politician should I bother and would MONA be beneficial to join to effect change? Perhaps Nurse Karen will have some political insight for me.

Hey Angie... I'm a fellow Wisconsoner... I'm in my 2nd year of school, and will be an LPN in May. Any idea what your facility pays LPN's? I'm a bit discouraged as we are being told that the going rate for an LPN is about $12.00 / hour... RN's start at $18.00... is that on the low side?
