Penn Valley / National American University????

U.S.A. Missouri

I need advice please. I have my AA from Longview CC. I got an office job and left it at that. I'm still at that "office" job but I want to be a nurse. I have been busy raising my children to a more independent age etc. Now they are 13 and 9 so I'm inspired to hit the books again. Last week I inquired at NAU (and at $250 per credit hour OUCH!) I could get my Assoc RN in about 2.5 years for a whopping 20 grand plus or my BSN for 46 grand plus! It seems convenient that they have a part time schedule etc. Just very expensive and I'm a bit worried about the accreditation and a Sanford Brown nightmare as well.

Meanwhile, out of the blue, an acceptance letter for the LPN EVE/PT plan at Penn Valley came in the mail 3 days after that visit! If that's not a sign I don't know what is!

I took the LPN/Hobet test in 2001 for Penn Valley. I passed and couldn't attend FT days due to needing to work FT. I guess I asked to be put in line for the PT/Eve LPN and then forgot about it.

My dilema...I want to be an RN period. But...I don't want to pass this LPN thing up either unless I know I could do the RN at Penn Valley part time. And I don't want to wait 5 years like this! I took the Hobet in 2001!!!

I would again, I assume, take the compass test and the NET test to be accepted in the RN. I am enrolled in cell bio this summer just because I know I'm RN bound.

I've tried to get answers on the phone...ha ha. I'm making a trip to Penn Valley tomorrow to find out more on the Bridge program vs. RN part time.

It seems I would basically be taking 43 extra credit hours (LPN) if I did the bridge thing. I have all gen ed but psych 243, biol 109, and micro. I'm so close yet so far due to red tape.

I'm sure this is part of why I've been discouraged in the past :uhoh3:

Now I'm wiser and more persistant. My figuring seems like the time frame part time will be about 3 years no matter which way I go.

17 month pt LPN

1-1.5 years bridge/RN

It will just be more money and credits to do LPN first.

I pray I'll know more tomorrow. Any ideas/suggestions???

Thanks

Hey All Things Bright!

You are SOOOOO RIGHT!!! I'm 4 weeks into Penn Valley's LPN program, evening/weekend. It is AWESOME, HARD, BUSY and FUN! The teachers Dianne and Dana are wonderful. I am confident that they do in fact prepare you with the knowledge to be a holistic and competent nurse, as well as, pass the NCLEX. I'm really excited to be an LPN. I am really wanting the patient interaction. I am 100% confident that I chose correctly.

Penn Vally has the highest NCLEX pass rate in the state of MO--just a 411 for you guys. It isnt JUST about how fast you get through the program--its really important to look at the program you are in and if it will get you through boards. GL to all!

Hi Amy,

Just curious where you got this info? PV was FAR above many.many others on the MO BON website but I don't believe that it was in first place? Have new numbers been reported that are not on the website yet?

Thanks,

Hi T-I got the info from one of my instructors-Rosemary Fusaro. Apparently she had the most recent numbers--she (and two other instructors) stressed them over and over at orientation. She is also one of the program coordinators. I have not seen any concrete numbers in writing though--but I doubt they would make that up! ;) They get in trouble when they pull stuff like that...

I wonder how quickly the schools find pass rates? NAU's first class graduates in November so I will be anxious to hear how they do.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying school:)

If anyone with experience or any thoughts or things heard about Graceland I would love to hear them. Please share. I found a post on here that said someone was going to Graceland next semester and this was in 2005 or 2006, but their name link had no contact info. Please share if you have info.

I have had a complete opposite experience with PV's LPN classes, However I am currently in my first sem of the day class. Our materials suck and so do the teachers. they rely too much on self learning and talk down to us! when ever we have a problem they take no initative to solve it. ie there was a descrepancy on a test where the test answers were wrong and the teacher (who will remain nameless) REFUSED to fix it and instead patronized us about the whole incident. They refuse to be wrong! Mrs. Marshall who is my clinical instructer has taught me 1,000X more in clinicals than what both instructers have taught us together. I realize that this is a computer assisted program however it is not an online program though it is being treated as such. Dont even get me started on the shape and lack of practice materials and the maniquines! :angryfire I regret what I payed for this semester luckily I have finals on Tuesday so I will not have to deal with these horrible instructers anymore.
