PC techs- St. John's Hospital

U.S.A. Missouri

I'm new to the site here. :)

I start nursing school at STLCC-Meramec in fall 2012. I need a night job asap (docs. orders) and i want something that will give me experience with what my major is. I applied for one of the full-time PC tech positions, night shift- that's the only shift I can work since I have a sleep disorder to where it's pretty much impossible to work days ( I work from 1pm-8pm, 4 days a week at my job right now and can't keep up with it anymore (too tired:crying2:) with it being a day/evening job. that's why i'm trying to find a night job). and DSPS makes going to school during the day a pain in the a** (delayed sleep phase syndrome aka night owl syndrome). The only work experience I have is lifeguarding-which i'm very good at and take the job very seriously unlike most of the lifeguards I have ever worked with-for the past 5 years. I am taking my written part of the EMT-B test today to get my license. (i already passed my practicals test). I was going to be a paramedic but loved my clinicals so much I decided to switch over to nursing. i was only able to do 48 hrs. for clinicals=[ i wish I was able to do more hrs. I did them at DePaul ER back in April. Three 16 hr. shifts- 11pm-3pm, 3pm-7am(fri. night-sat. morning) then 11pm-3pm (that same sat. night-easter morning/day). I wasn't tired after 16 hrs. either. I wanted to do a 24 hr. shift but my instructor wouldn't let me. (yes i'm a workaholic. and I don't have a problem with it. when school is out for the summer, for the past 5 summers i've always worked at least 80 hrs. a week)=]

Anyways the job description said something about a Basic Skills course I and II. I read in another post that they give us their own training. I am still in school this semester, taking my science and math classes that I still need-just to get them out of the way before I start nursing school. I have classes 10am-1pm, 5pm-9pm on tuesdays and 8am-1pm, 5pm-7pm on thursdays.

I was wondering if me being in school this semester would automatically disqualify me from getting the job because I wouldn't be able to do the training on tuesdays and thursdays? I can't see myself being the only student applying for the job either.

To get a patient care tech job do they require any previous experience working in an ER or in a medical related job?

When I get my EMT license in a week or 2 I still couldn't apply for an EMT job. I don't have my driver's license. i'm scared of driving=[

I applied 2 days ago for this tech job and haven't heard anything yet... Will I get an e-mail or something if they are interested in setting up an interview?

If it matters, below are the current certs. I have right now-

American Red Cross-CPR-PR, AED, BBP, First Aid, Waterpark, and Lifeguarding. American Heart Association-BLS (Basic Life Support) for the Healthcare Provider, BLS for the Healthcare Provider Instructor. EMT-Basic (Jan./Feb. 2011), NIMS 700-A.
