Hi everyone! I am in the process of working on my prereq's at ECC in Union. I think I have decided to apply for the nursing program at SCCC instead. Any advice about the application process? Do they have a waiting list? Does anyone know if I have to take a general biology before I can take A&P or micro? At ECC you are required to take principles of biology and nutrition. Any input would be great!

hello! your best bet would be to talk to one of the nursing advisors and get your application started right away. they do have a waiting list and, last i heard, admission was going by initial date of your application. that could've changed as that was 2 years ago when i heard that. if you have taken a biology course within the last five years, you can go straight to a&p. most people who are waiting just take their prereqs while they wait.

here is a link with information about their program at scc (admission requirements, cost of program, bridging, etc.) many people don't know about this page and it's actually pretty helpful (especially the "everything you ever wanted to know about nursing school).

here is a link to the page in the school catalog about the graduation requirements.

as of right now, you do not have to take a nutrition class. but things could change. your graduation requirements are based on the catalog that was produced when you started classes at scc.

they accept 80 students each fall and the deadline is july 15 or until the spots are full (they usually fill pretty quickly). generally the last step of the process is the dosage test (which you have to pass with a 90%) the first 80 who have everything on their application complete after the dosage test get in.

there is so much information. but once you apply at the college they tell you that you have to see a nursing advisor anyways. last i knew there were three, i don't know if there is more or less now.

the admission process is stressful because you don't relax until you know you got in. the worst part is the waiting.

i hope this helps and good luck with whatever you decide to do!

there is not a waiting list. Everything is done randomly. Everyone who wants to get in puts in their application. Then around august or september letters go out telling you your group number you were randomly selected for. The number goes in numerical order. For example group number one is the first group to sign up for the dosage test. then number two, then three. The first 80 people who pass the dosage test with a 90 % or above get accepted to the program. If you are not one of the first 80 you do not get in and must try next year. That was what I had to do in 2008.

btw after you apply the next step is the dosage test. that is all you really have to do. It is all up to luck really. it sucks.

I'm in my first semester there right now. They take 80 students a year. Once you have your pre-reqs finished you can sign up, after that you'll have to take a dosage test and pass with a 90% or better. If you happen to be one of the first 100 to sign up and you pass you are probably good to go b/c the chances of 20 people dropping out or failing the test are pretty good. It's the fairest way possible when there are more than 300 people on the waiting list! So, if you have not gone and talked to one of the nursing advisors I suggest you do that as soon as possible so you know what pre-reqs you should do first in order to get your name on the waiting list! I will tell you that the program is EXTREMELY hard and there is a ton of work to do. It will all be worth it in the end though and SCCC has a GREAT reputation for their Nursing Program, they have other schools coming to learn from them as to how to run their programs. Good luck!!!:nurse:
