Chamberlain graduates from St Louis work prospects

Hi everyone,

I was accepted in the Chamberlain BSN program in STL for the summer semester. I have read various threads about the program, some positive but a lot negative. I'm a little bit confused as of what to do. I know that it is accredited but I am worried about the cost and also reputation.

Can anyone that attends the program right now give me any information about where they have the clinicals?

What are the job prospects? Do hospitals hire Chamberlain graduates?

Is the school recognized in all states? Will I be able to transfer my license to California for example?

I know of a few people who attended there, and they seemed happy with the program. The nurses I worked with were knowledgeable and very good at their jobs. The students did clinicals at Barnes, Forest Park, and I didn't ask about other locations. I think most of the criticism came regarding their online ADN program, which is now defunct. The people I met attended on campus. In my opinion it is a very expensive program, but if you have to go there to realize your dream of nursing, then it's okay. Once you graduate and pass the NCLEX, then you will be licensed and able to go anywhere in the country to practice nursing. Once you get your initial license, then becoming licensed in other states is all about applying and paying their fees. It doesn't matter what school you went to at that point. If your plan is to get a MSN degree, then you may want to check with the school you want to attend about your credits transferring (although I really don't think you will have a problem since you are doing the BSN program). I am a current Chamberlain student. I am currently finishing up my last 4 weeks of Adult Health II and I will graduate in August 2011. My clinicals have been at SLU hospital, and I did fundamentals clinicals at a nursing home. I have multiple classmates that have just been hired by a very large hospital as student nurse techs, and have met quite a few Chamberlain grads at SLU hospital. I have not heard anything about Chamberlain grads being less appealing, I think it pretty much comes down to if you pass NCLEX, you pass NCLEX, it doesnt really matter where you came from. The definite con to the school is the price. Overall I have been satisfied though.

How is Chamberlain's online ADN program defunct? I am looking at the program right now on their website.

The St. Louis campus no longer offers the ADN program at all. The online program is actually through a campus in Ohio I believe. (Although I thought they had done away with it as well recently, but I may be wrong)
