Why won't BJC hire you? As of August 2010, they were hiring new grads like crazy. I know everyone in my class at UMSL had jobs waiting for them at places around St. Louis.
That was 2010. The recession has finally hit the St. Louis area for new grads. I know of a nurse who graduated in May of 2011 and just now acquired her first nursing job at a LTAC. I would suggest that you do not limit your application process to hospitals. Try nursing homes, LTACs like Specialty Select, Kindred, or Mercy, dialysis clinics, urgent care centers, doctor offices, rehab hospitals, behavior health centers, etc. You will have to put in many applications, but something should open for you, even if it is not your first choice. Also, apply even if it says they want experience, as they may be willing to make an exception. Also, the fact that you have had many phone interviews means that they are interested in you, but obviously something is not going well enough during the interview to allow you to proceed to the next step. You should practice your interviewing skills with someone who has gone through them and succeeded, or perhaps a mentor or advisor who is willing to help you. Good luck.
