anybody in the KC area taking the NET?!

Hi,

I have not taken the NET yet but will be soon. I am also planning to go to Penn Valley. You are lucky that some of your previous coursework counts towards your nuring degree. I was pre-accounting at Maple Woods before and only 1 class out of the four semesters that I previously attended counts towards my nursing degree:( Oh well, atleast I know now what I want to do.

I took the NET test a couple of years ago. The math is really easy. It is decimals, fractions, percentages, addition, and very basic algebra. I bought a book at my college's bookstore to help me prepare. Don't get hung up on the algebra. There are only 10 questions and they are simple such as: x + 10 = 14 I'm not sure what the name of the book was that I bought, but you might want to check with your college bookstore or on amazon.com. are you serious? that's the kind of math I had in 8th grade! But, if there are sixty questions and only a few are algebra, is all the rest number conversions, word problems, etc?

Yes, it is very much like 8th grade math. I'm not joking! No word problems at all. You will see math problems where you need to add decimals together such as 123.45 + 6.789. You will need to know percentages such as 25 is what % of 145, etc. The only thing I worked on was my speed. I practiced the sample problems in the book and timed myself. That's all I had to do. The other part of the NET is on reading. There's really nothing you can study on the reading section. You might want to practice answering questions and time yourself, but really don't sweat it! My overall score was a 90. 99 is the highest you can get on the test.

I have a BA degree from UMKC because at the time I was young and dumb and trying to finish college as fast as possible!
Now that it's some years later I'd really like to get my ADN but my math skills have never been great. I'm dying to find some examples of math that will appear on the NET but I'm not having any luck!
I'm finding I already have a lot of the required courses, except for a few like psych and bio 100. I'm thinking on the Penn Valley program but everything is so up in the air! Anybody in my shoes?

I am currently going to Penn Valley Community College and will graduate with my ADN in May. When I took the NET test, I bought "The NET Study Guide" book from the school bookstore. It cost like $40 but if you been out of school for a while it can be help. I'm not actually a math whiz so the practice questions helped me alot. Hope this helps!

yes you helped me greatly! I am a little peeved because the placement test says I need a developmental math course, which I have to take before the NET. It frustrates me since I already have a BA degree and have taken college math! But I am happy to find somebody that is doing the program I an interested in! I hope I can ask you more questions if I have them! Thanks!

I glad I could help! Sure you can ask me about Penn Valley's program. I know when I started my nursing classes I felt like I had a hundred questions because everything gets thrown at you all at once. The nursing classes are very different from the pre and co-reqs.

I'm at the Pioneer Campus for LPN's through Penn Valley. I took the NET, passed the math with a 98% and missed on the reading by 1. So guess bridging is the way to go for me. If you go to the Penn Valley Campus or the Pioneer Campus, they have a tutoring center with packets of the math problems that will be on the test :)
