Self Study to learn ICU nursing???!?!

I recently learned of an ICU position that hires nurses without any nursing experience, but the job training is "self study." You wouldn't shadow anyone but a resource nurse would be available if needed. Does anyone know if this is common training for ICU?

New grads and nurses to ICU get 12 weeks at my hospital plus an eight week Critical Care Course and a 5 week Trauma course cause we are a Trauma unit. Since I came to my current ICU with 3 months experience, I was given a 9 week orientation. But I ask questions all the time. The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked.

it would be a plus factor if u know much with EKG reading, do u? I am willing to learn more on EKG reading

With regards to self study critical care nursing, I think it would be a very bad mistake to enter this kind of nursing by self study. There is a lot to learn. There is a lot of complex information which should be taught by a facilitator. And it is going to have a clinical rotation to have hands experience while getting guidance from a nurse.
