Macomb Pharmacology

U.S.A. Michigan

Published

I was thinking about taking Macomb's online pharmacology course this spring/summer to help prepare me for what is to come in the nursing program (I am currently in my first 8 weeks). Has anyone taken this course? Was it beneficial?

I think the MCC nursing program does a great job integrating pharm into the curriculum so that it isn't all thrown at you at once. As a fellow nursing student, about to graduate, I don't think you need an extra course. Enjoy your summer, the nursing program can be super time consuming. I would try to get experience at a hospital over the summer if you don't already have it. It helps a ton in clinicals.

Thank you Corazon and congratulations on your up-coming graduation!

I just completed my first week today and I am quite overwhelmed right now - I am not concerned with the content but the amount of work and when to complete it. Any advice on organizational skills would be very much appreciated :)

Don't worry, the first week is always the most overwhelming. They will ALWAYS bombard you with things your first week. I just had my first day of the last 8 weeks today and it was just as overwhelming as always! I always make a to do list of the things that I can get done right away (before the lecture). I make every attempt to read all the chapters but sometimes you just have to skim. Get a good NCLEX book (Saunders is my fave) and always use it to study for exams. Keep a planner handy too!

I am not the most organized person but I have gotten through the program with a 3.9. You will be fine :) Don't let them scare you, you WILL have time for a life, you will have time to do your laundry, you will have time to take a weekend vacation here and there. PM me if you have any questions, these boards helped me a lot when I first started!

Thank you so much Corazon - I really appreciate your calming advice :)

Lisa, did you already buy your drug guide bundle? If not, I can't recommend Skyscape enough for your phone/ipod. Today in clinical, everyone was complaining about having to lug their books around, and having it take forever to find the drug, and sometimes not even being able to find it. They're the same price, so if you haven't yet, electronic is the way to go!

Hi Lauren -

I did buy my books but I was planning on asking for skyscape for my birthday because I saw it is the same as the books. I'm glad to hear that I was thinking in the right direction.

How is it going? Were you able to switch your clinical site? After all of this time, I can't believe we are finally official :)

What days do you have class?

No, apparently I had to ask for a switch by January 3rd, even though I didnt meet anyone till the 7th, so I dont know how I could have switched! But its okay, I couldnt ask for a better instructor. She is really smart, knows her stuff and is so understanding. I hate the drive, but its worth it because Troy Beaumont is a really nice hospital and I have a good clinical group.

Im at school mondays and thursdays 9-12, but were in the university center, not the E building, and Im @ Troy on fridays from 7-3. I dont know what to think of the class I have right now... its fluid and electrolytes, but other things as well...I would recommend getting the book fluid and electrolytes made incredibly easy (the instructor recommends it on the first day) and maybe read it over the summer, because its something thats very complex and theres a lot to it...so you'll be ahead of the game.

Hope your first two weeks have been going well, PM me or email me if you have any questions!!
