Does anyone from Michigan know how much LPN's make? I'm from the Detroit Metro Area.

Specializes in MedSurg/Ped Vent/Geriatrics/Rehab.

In Detroit..I make $24.

Nusing is MY Dream, can you ask your friend how long it took her to get into Davenports Nursing Program?

Hi Sirena922,

My mother is in a nursing home in the Detroit area and the LPN's working there state that they started with $22.00 hourly with benefits and $24.00 hourly without benefits. I atttend Davenport University Warren campus. Which one do you attend?

DUpre-ns, I was attending the Warren Campus also but I'm going to get my Bachleors in Business Administration, then maybe do the bridge over to the nursing. How do you like Davenport?

Hi Sirena922,

I love it! The small class sizes, the rich diversity, and, to my surprise peole of all ages. This is what really makes it work for me.You must remember I am taking my pre-reqs. So, so far so good. The only things I do not like are the cost, and from what I am hearing the nursing program is not approved/accredited by the NLN. Only the Midland campus is approved/accredited by the NLN. According to one of the nursing instructors they must have so many nursing classes to graduate before they can earn accreditation. I'm still unclear on this, but believe me I on the case trying to find out what's, what.

I am thinking about transfering to Macomb CC only because it is cheaper, and they are NLN accredited.

Do you like Davenport? Why did you change your major?

DUpre-ns,

The tution was killing me there! Even though I had student loans it was just too much! Macomb's program is tough to get into, but it is cheaper. I went back there this summer to take a class and wanted to take a full load but they told me by going to Davenport I met my loan limits for Community College! Mind you, I didn't even get a degree from Davenport, but I owe $17,000 because of the loans I took out there. At a community college your only allowed $11,000 depending on which one you attend, its different for all of them. Man was I upset, so I have to continue at a University for my degree! I had so many classes for a business degree, I just decided to finish that up and then do a one plus one for my nursing degree. I thought this would be a easier way to get into somebodies program having a degree already.

Hi Sirena922,

Wow! Thanks for the information on the loans. This will be my last semester at Davenport. I live in Macomb county so the tuition is a lot cheaper. I can take a full load, with books, and everything (Pell Grant) and get a nice refund without taking out any student loans. :-)

What where your experiences at Macomb? Please share the positives and negatives. What college are you attending now? Thanks so much for your help.

DUpre-ns,

I like Macomb it's a good school and it was conviente for me living in Detroit. I took alot of online classes and loved them. I recommend them any day over Davenport University. Make sure that you haven't met your loan limits for Macomb and you should be good. Right now I'm attending Franklin University Online for my degree in Business Administration since I have most of the classes for it. When I'm done, I'll be trying to get into someones Nursing Program! Good luck to you. Oh, and make sure you attend one of Macomb's Informational Meetings about the nursing program.

Hey Sirena922,

After reading your last post I checked my student loan status and I am okay. Thanks to you. I will check into and attend one of there informational nursing meetings. I hope to start Macomb cc winter '07. Thanks so much for the well wishes. All the best to you and your family.

Hi Sirena922,

I went to mcc today, I will register for classes tomorrow. 12 credit hours with $20.00 reg. fee is $836.00 with out course fees. Compared to DU this is a lot cheaper. Thanks for your help.

DUpre-ns!

Congradulations!! Yes thats much cheaper!! Davenport is a private University thats why they're so high!! Best of luck to you.

Hey Sirena922,

I went to register for classes yesterday. I had to have a change of address put on my DL. I was to late getting back. I'll have to wait until Monday. The only problem I see is most of the classes I want to take are full. Iwill keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best.

Well I'm sure they'll have something left. Did you try registering online, or by phone? I would go online through webvisor to see. Good luck. I know I took a few online classes and loved it.
