Job shadowing a nurse

U.S.A. Michigan

I was just wondering if any local hospitals allow shadowing or nurses? I know the possibility is probably rare due to liability and the HIPA laws. Have any of you shadowed a nurse? How was the experience?

Thanks for your responses

I have shadowed a nurse at 2 different hospitals. I had a certain area I wanted (and still want) to work in...labor and delivery. So I called 2 hospital recruiters and told them I wanted to work at their hospital and was wondering if I could shadow to see how I liked it. They told me to call a different person that set that stuff up and then I scheduled it with each person (I didn't tell each hospital that I was setting up another)

One was kind of boring...I was there for 8 hours and didn't see anything! It was a slow day :( The other I was there for 4 hours and I seen a c-section! So it depends on the hospital how long you are there (maybe they want you to go for 4 hours or maybe 12 hours ect) All floors may not allow you to shadow but some may :)

That's exactly what I would like to do when I get my RN license. How will you go about getting hired? I'm looking online now and willing to move if I have to but wanted to know how others have made it an easier transition.

Thanks

I have no idea how I am going to get hired! Ha. I graduated 2 months ago...took the NCLEX (and passed) 2 weeks ago...still looking for a job. I started looking before school was finished and have been looking since. I have only had 1 interview. Besides that I keep calling and emailing people to bother them in hopes that they will get tired of me and just hire me already!

I PM'd you Forensic.

Also for jobs I have started to attach my cover letter and resume to every email I send out...so they can look at it or so they can forward it to someone else ... or something!!!

I got your PM! Thank you :)
