Specializes in ICU.

Hey there,

Just wondering if anyone has ever volunteered at a hospital? I'm currently on the waitlist for HFCC and I thought I would give it a try (with all my free time, lol). I work full time, have two kids and will be taking A&P II this spring semester. Oh well, no rest for the wicked:) I applied and I am going to orientation in two weeks. I really have no idea exactly how it works but I am certainly hopeing that I'll get to work with or around patients.

I've been trying to get a job within a hospital but without experience it's not so easy. Not to mention that I am so bored at my current job. I need mental stimulation and I know nursing will definitely give me that.

Anyway, just curious if anyone has any stories or info to share regarding this:clown:.

i also don't have any experience and wanted to work or volunteer at a hospital. i think it is a great oppurtunity so you can get to feel the atmosphere. i recently went to oakwood hospital website and they different volunteer programs you can volunteer in without any experience.

hopes this helps!:D

actually just an fyi, i did apply and i go for orientation on may 16th for oakwood main. i will update with any new info once i receive it. they did tell me that i would be given many different choices as to where i want to volunteer. anything involving patients works for me:yeah:. i was just wondering if anyone had done it before and what kinds of things they allowed you to do.

did you apply yet?

I just applied for the adult sitter position, but I don't think it's a volunteer position, i think you get paid to do it. But I have heard you can work with nurses by help feeding the patient, read to them and anything else that the nurse maybe needing help with. I guess you can call it being a CNA, but you're not required to have any experience and have to work alongside with a nurse.

:lol2:

Hopefully I will get the position, but I also wanted to try U of M Health System nurse shadowing position as well. :nuke:

Where did you find that at. I've looked a million times for something that didn't require experience and that actually paid something and I've never seen it.:crying2:

I went on the Oakwood Hospital site and went to the careers page and typed in adult sitter. I think it's available at the Villiage Plaza in Dearborn(Afternoon and Midnight Shifts), but you can always check and see if the hospital has positions for adult sitters as well. :nuke:
