Detroit Hospitals

U.S.A. Michigan

hi,

Whats your take on hospitals in and around Detroit? I am an RN and am trying to get a feel of what its like out there.

Specializes in Trauma/Burn ICU, Neuro ICU.

The Detroit Medical Center (DMC) hospitals are all excellent. Henry Ford Hospital gets good reviews regularly on this site. Outside Detroit - University of Michigan Hospitals - excellent. Beaumont in Royal Oak - excellent. Can't speak to the others. What are you looking for in particular?

St John Hospitals are also very good (St John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit, Macomb Hospital, Providence Hospital, Providence Park Hospital).

Thanks for the reply, Am CICU nurse, thinking about picking up shifts on a perdiem basis. Is it better to be a contingent employee through the hospital or is it better to go through an agency? Only want to work 5-6 shifts a month and what is the pay like?

Call St John Health and ask about the FlexChoice program - it would be perfect for you! Pay ranges from $28-48/hr.

Henry Ford in Detroit is good. Good benefits too. Very good to employees.

How well do they pay contingent RNs

HF? I have no idea. I heard it was decent.

Specializes in Emergency.

I heard HF pays about the same as St Johns. UM was pretty tight with positions couple months ago. Beaumont laid off people (not nurses) and I oriented with some people at St Johns that are working per diem from there. Best thing is to look at everyones web site and see what they have. Where are you at now? That said its the end of March and May is fast approaching so new grads are going to be grabbing a lot of open spots.
