I started out on the civilian side as an Oncology nurse and then progressed into the Infectious Disease arena. I decided to commission into the Navy 3 years ago and have had a blast ever since!

  1. Navy Nursing Experience at Walte Reed

    It's still a possibility. I had mine listed with the big 3 (although I was not a new nurse, just new to the navy) and the detailer called me and asked/told me that I should go to Belvoir! I am not sure what other bases have adapted the program now ...

    I commissioned at 39, you will have no problem. If you have already been a nurse for a while it can make you more competitive than the younger, fresh out of school nurses!

    There are more than just the big three to choose from now. They have developed CNTP (clinical nurse transition programs) for new grads at other bases including Fort Belvoir, VA now. Just something to keep in mind if you think you only get to choose...
  4. Navy application-physical

    Overall, a pretty easy process. Just regular medical physical with vision and hearing tests. Some bloodwork, urine test and alcohol screen.

    Well, the holidays caused me a bit of a delay in receiving orders but I finally got them!! I was able to have my husband swear me in 12 hours before he went on a month long training mission with the army. He's set to return 4 days before I fly out ...

    So detailer called me yesterday with a different offer! Still ODS in February but he'd like me to go to fort belvoir instead. Works out a little better for me! So I'm belvoir bound!!

    My recruiter said the detailer called me directly and left a message for me back in october, problem is I never got it. That's what's frustrating to me....I could have already known. I'm waiting to hear so I can turn in my notice to my current boss...

    Found out I was final selected today as well!!!
