  3. Why are LPNs not allowed to do more?

Guys, we have been playing this game for years and years. I graduated in 1975 and it was going on then. I,m retired now, but worked for over 30 years. Most of that stuff is for fill in. They don,t know what to put in that slot. You might have one thi...

  5. I might gag

When I first started nursing in the hospital, I could never get use to the others that sat at lunch and spoke of enemas, decubs, etc. I lost alot of weight when I first began, then I got as use to it as the rest and it became commonplace. You can get...
  6. Why are LPNs not allowed to do more?

I have never really had any fear. I loved nursing, but the politics of it is what made me think twice at times. Another thing was the fact that there was never enough help, yet the powers that be expected the same amount of work from you. No excuses!...
  7. Why are LPNs not allowed to do more?

Neither have I and to clear something up. I never meant that Lpn,s/ Lvn,s were a liability. I am one after all and have been for over 30 years. What I meant by the liability remark was that may be the reason some facilities were not allowing Lpn,s/Lv...

Maybe a better word would have indeed been liability. We aren,t allowed to do alot of the things we use to do due to hospital and other health care facilities being sued when something goes wrong.
  9. found a pill/not given....

That is the one thing I always did before I left the facility at the end of my shift. I always checked my pockets. It will save you alot of grief.
  10. I might gag

My nemesis has always been sputum. Yuck~~ Esp. after a breathing tx. and it gets spit into a emesis basin. Ever tried to get that out?
  11. Lvn Have To Deal W/ Maggots????

I worked LTC in a nursing home for over 30 years and never saw one maggot in all those years. Don,t worry about it.
  12. Why are LPNs not allowed to do more?

    In a word MALPRACTICE!!!
  13. perfectionist or not cut out for nursing?

First of all you need to try and calm yourself when your getting ready to pull a med, do a tx., etc. Really focus on the order, not on maybe making a mistake. It was a long time ago, but I can remember being tewrrified of the instructor breathing dow...
  14. found a pill/not given....

I,m a retired nurse of 30 years. My advice? Flush the darn thing and keep it to yourself!!!
  15. How long did it take you to feel comfortable in LTC?

I worked as an LPN in mostly LTC for over 30 years. Was it stressful? You betcha! Did I love it? Yep! Newver a dull moment. Oh I had nights I was ready to walk out, but who hasn,t? I took a few shortcuts, but none that would ever harm the patient or ...
