  1. Why are nurses disrespected so much?

Hi OP! I would have to agree with you. Something I've noticed is that you have to be a certain type of individual to make it through nursing school and to be a successful nurse. These people are thick skinned, assertive, independent, strong willed, a...
  2. Leggings as nursing attire???

I think this is the problem here lol. I lived in Washington and literally everyone wears leggings as pants. Northface, shirt, leggings, and boots, that's it lol. I moved to California and I didn't see people wearing it like that, so I think it's a re...
  3. Best way to study from PowerPoints??

Printed the whole powerpoint - 3 down, 2 across and re-write stuff in the margins (i learn best as well when i rewrite but i agree it is annoyingly time consuming). if allowed, i edit the powerpoint to reduce the amount of uneeded fonts and pictures,...
  4. Trained in the Philippines

I'm sorry, I meant letter of explanation! My friend wrote it herself and included supporting documents (for her it was because she couldn't stay to take the board exam and had to go back to the US - so basically no opportunity to do so).
  5. Is this reasonable or just over the top?

The hospital I interned at had this format, except for the part about saying how great the next nurse is. In the MS units, shift change reports would take about 30 mins - 1 hour. Yes they always get out late. My boyfriend works there now and he goes ...
  6. MD in the Philippines?

For NP programs: there are no NP programs in the Philippines at this time. For Med School: I can only say that I have met many people from the US who went to Med school in the Philippines and did their internship/residency in the US. I lost touch wi...
  7. Trained in the Philippines

Yes, based on a friend's experience, writing a letter of reccommendation is good enough. As far as I know as long as you aren't a Filipino citizen, you definitely can't take the exam. They were really strict on this when I was applying for it.
  8. What Can I Do With A BSN? (Without a license).

UWorld in addition to kaplan is a great resource as well. I loved their question bank and it was just as challenging at Kaplan. Search the UWorld group on facebook, a lot of people post testimonials, advice, and study tips. Sorry, did that sound too ...
  9. Thanks for the reply! I can only hope that will happen to me as well.
  10. RN from PH to California... Any suggestions/guidance?

While waiting for documents to process (which took a minimum of 3 months, but personally 5 months for me), my friend worked as a caregiver in a nursing home, which didn't need any certification as far as I know. If she has graduated within the last 2...
  11. There is a hospital group where I live that has 4 different medical campuses and each has their own general listing for "RN grad residency" but are on the same website. I applied to all. In addition to that, though, there are individual listing speci...
  12. I've been hearing rumors that the U.S. now requires U.S. and foreign graduates to take the NCLEX within 2 years of graduation. So far I have only seen New Mexico with this requirement. Anyone else know more about this?
  13. is CA BRN unfair?

Hi! My friend was recently in a similar situation. Me and my other classmates have all been approved except for him because supposedly of the concurrency cases, which was impossible as we completed them together. What he did was call the BON (you hav...
  14. 2017 Studying in the Philippines for Nursing

Cebu Doctors is a very good and reputable school. I just mentioned the siyudad part just in case your parents wanted to whisk you off to some distant province - that's not something you want. Again, do your research. Yes, there are a lot of Filipino ...
  15. 2017 Studying in the Philippines for Nursing

Hi Elyzarae! I am in the same situation as you, (a US citizen who studied in the Philippines), and I graduated with a BSN in April 2016 and am now an RN in California, currently endorsing my license to Virginia. What I cannot stress enough is, do you...
