You normally buy the textbook that the school tells you to buy. Do you already have the required text and are looking for another one? What exactly are you wanting out of this book?

When I was in nursing school I had a second nursing textbook that was given to my mother by a nurse she worked with. It was 10 years old and had different authors than the one required by my instructors. I used it as a supplemental book and found it so helpful in explaining things that our required textbook just didn't always hit home on. It never hurts to get a second writer's thoughts on subjects.

Med Surg Reviews and Rationales is also good as an additional reference.

I would buy whatever the school recommends as you will not have time to read any others anyway. Also, they get outdated quickly.
