Pre-interview survey for hospital jobs? Is this new?

I applied to 2 local hospitals (Beaumont and Trinity Health Care) for home care jobs. Both organizations sent me a "survey". It was the same questions for both places. There were about 50 questions about about work relationships and how you feel about various types of people, etc. The answers vary from definitely agree to definitely disagree. It seems like some type of psychological survey because the same questions are continually asked but in different ways. They say there are no wrong answers but it was VERY obvious to me what answers they wanted. I haven't worked in the hospital or even applied to a hospital in about 10 years. Is this new? Is anyone else familiar with this??? What are they expecting to find out with the results?

I know there was a hospital in texas that you had to take the test before you could fill out an application online.

More and more healthcare organizations are using behaviorial based "surveys" to assist their managers fine tune the interviewing process. They are not supposed to be used as a screening tool. Most of these surveys do not have right or wrong answers and are good at detecting deception.

Be carefull...you may think that the answer may be obvious, but many times it's not.

For example, a typical question on integrity may ask: Have you ever taken anything home from work that didn't belong to you.

If you answered no, then believe it or not, that isn't the answer they were looking for...everyone has taken something...be it company issued pins, maybe bringing a bill with a stamp to borrower an envelope to mail it in, so you wouldn't have to run by walmart...SOMETHING.

However, usually down the survey they will have a more specific question, like, "What is the most you have taken from work without authorization?"

The options will be something like $0 (which we know is the wrong answer)...less than $5.00 (which is usually the correct answer)...$50 to $100...more than $100...the last two, are obviously wrong.

You'll get a fail on these tests if it looks like you are trying to skew the test...and yes, they are designed to pick up on that.

This is not uncommon. I can't recall the name of this exam but it is an exam to basically score what type of person you are. They use it to determine if you will be a fit for the organization but it is just a screening tool. Just be honest in your answers. There are no wrong or right answers.
