IV Phenergan

Has anyone experienced problems with IV Phenergan 25 mg. We are currently having trouble administering it to any one. It seems like everyone has respiratory depression with this drug. We have had a few people stop breathing. I know that this is a potential side effect, but it seems like it is happening a awful lot. Also does anyone know how safe it is for children above the age of 2.

We too autosub phenergan for compazine due to shortage. I hate giving it i.v. I checked on this guy 5-10 minutes after dose given he couldn't keep his eyes open. I asked him his name, he incoherenty responded. I layed him down checked his v/s. (good)

and he promptly sawed logs for hours. coworker had a pt pass out in bathroom after phenergan. A 30 y/o fresh p/o coded after a dose. I tell any Doc who tries to give me I.V.phenergan orders that I'm not comfortable with it and they order something else.

We too use zofran on p/o pts but its worthless. Reglan is given to just about everyone. We use tigan i.m. or p.r. and compazine p.r.

This post just made my stomach hit my throat!!!!! Due to my various illnesses, in the past 2 months, I have been in the position of receiving IV Phenergan 4 times. Thankfully, I'm obviously not affected by it BUT holy crap, now you got me all paranoid!!!! The last trip to the ER, the one where the Pharmacy OD'd me on Bactim DS, I had it 2 times in 3 hours because they couldn't stop the vomiting and dry heaves. I guess sometimes the cure can kill faster than the ailment!!!!
