Where does a new grad (LPN) look for jobs?

Hi all,

So, I decided to go online to get some questions answered. I have asked these questions to many people in person and have not gotten clear or consistent answers.

First, let me introduce myself:

I will be a graduate of a Practical Nursing program next month and anticipate taking my LPN Boards ASAP (so July 2014). I would love to do as much as possible NOW to obtain a LPN job. I have been having a hard time directing my search to places in Mass. that will be willing to hire a new graduate LPN.

Any ideas? Also, do I have to wait until I get my license to begin the job search?

What can I be doing? Where should I be looking?

My resume is a 1 page wonder :) Any help will be very much appreciated.

I have been an lpn for 3 years, currently working on rn. It took more than 6 months and sending out about a 100 resumes to even get an interview...Boston area is oversaturated with new grad lpn and RNs! I took the first offer for PRN in corrections and after 6 months starting searching again. I was fortunate to get a nice position in a major boston hospital. My recommendation would be to look for a CNA/PCA position in a facility that also employs lpns...you will have a much easier time applying internally.

I'm in the last semester of an LPN program and have polled some of my classmates (most of whom are CNAs) and looked on my own. In MA I've seen corrections (through MHM staffing) as new grad friendly. Also, I've seen Beaumont Rehab and Nursing, Kindred, Genesis, Department of Developmental Services be new grad friendly as well. And applying internally is probably best.

Thank you all I appreciate the input. My strategy of being a little more persistent with letter writing and polite follow ups more than my teachers advised has paid off. I might be an LPN in a start up adult day health program. I have graduated and await my ATT to be licensed in MA. I Just took a low paying program aide shift for the organization that unofficially offered me the new LPN position pending my NCLEX PN. I am satisfied being a LPN with a BS in psych and have no resources to continue on to Rn. I have most of the LPN to BSN requisites done for Worcester State and may apply their down the road. I still need more hours to work as I am my family's sole supporter.
