UMASS Worcester GEP

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone has graduated from UMASS Worcester GEP program and could tell me a little about it. Was it good, level of difficulty, extremely time consuming, etc?? I appreciate any advice at all. I am so torn about which nursing school to go to. I've been accepted to Regis, but I'm still debating between UMASS Worcester and MGHIHP... any suggestions greatly appreciated. Also, I have two little ones (under 3) so I have to be able to balance both school and family!

Thanks!!!!

Does money make a difference? The 3 years of UMASS GEP are around 45K, the MGHIHP cost of attendance (see their website) is quoted at 88,000! ($916/credit)...

Well, I'd rather pay back the least possible, but the most important aspect to me is that the program is somewhat flexible in terms of allowing for some evening and weekend classes and/or clinical so I don't have to use daycare. Do you know much about either program?

I researched both programs when I was deciding what path to take. Both are setup to be day programs..I'm not saying there are no evening classes, but the focus in both programs is intense study. I know that at MGH there's the option to go "part-time" once the initial component (up to the RN) is completed.

Getting a Master's from scratch is far and way THE most expensive way to go into nursing. You could get a BSN (less expensive especially at Salem State and UMass) and get your Master's part time, once you're practicing.

Regis college offers the courses during the evenings and though it is an accelerated BSN to MSN program it gives you the option to exit after you get the BSN in about 20 months. So far, this program appears to be the best for my situation. The cost of just the initial BSN is about $50,000... yikes, huh? I figure it is a worthwhile investment and I'll get all that money back in the long run.

Did you end up choosing a program? Are you talking UMass Boston or Amherst?

Thanks for the advice!

2.8 years at Salem State for my BSN cost me about $35,000. I went through summers and winters. It's not as inexpensvie as it used to be.

I did, in May. We must know each other if you did too---small world!

My screenname makes it easy to guess (you're right)--not sure I know who you are, but I figured I knew most people from school at least by sight. Small world, huh?
