Quincy College LPN program Grads/Current students

U.S.A. Massachusetts

OK I admit it, I am very anxious to start the LPN program in Sept. I have been reading all these posts about care plans and clinicals and all kinds of stuff, but I hear it's all specific to the program...

Can anyone that has gone through the program (or at least the first semester) let me know what it's like. Where are your clinicals? What are they like? How many classes are you taking at one time? What are the hardest classes? What kind of equipment is needed to start? Any instructors to be aware of (of course that may want to be kept to PM instead of posting) Anything you would like to share?

Thanks in advance.

EDITED:

Oh and I forgot....do you recommend/use a PDA during class/clinicals? If so, which model/software for school?

I googled "nurse equipment" and found a couple of different sites. They were all in the same prices range. I also was in the Quincy College bookstore and thought the prices were high.

Hello future LPN's...

I was at orientation last week. I found a company online that beat McGills prices. jascouniform.com

I think the total savings was roughly $60 off an order for $163, big difference.

I started comparing book prices online but haven't made it over to the bookstore yet. Ecampus has the books new for approx $260 (I didn't include the college math or human behavior since I won't be taking those).

Hope your search is going well too.

i was also at orientation last week- the book list that we got was that for the whole program or just the first sem. i also checked on the books at walmart.com- the nursing books are much cheaper than i thought. i just paid 144. for the micro book. i am also going to check the book store out. see you in sept

I believe the book list is just for the first semester. Some of them are for specific classes and others are just for nursing in general and can be used for the whole program.

I Havent Bought Any Books Just Yet, But I Will Soon. I Did Get My White Shoes- I Got Them At Building 19 For 25.00 And There Nursemates And Comfortable. I Got One Pair Of Pants At Walmart And The Other Pair At Weargaurd. Just Waiting For The Stuff I Ordered From Mcgillis Like The Shirts Andbadges.

Just an update.....I already got my equipment and uniforms I purchased from jasco uniform. How quick!! Very pleased w/ the service.

I ordered most of the books from half.com, they seemed pretty reasonable. Some new, some used. I'll let you know how that works out.

I've been thinking about getting a palm pilot but am still undecided.....

I Have Been Hearing Alot About People Getting Palm Pilots But Im Not Sure What They Are--is It Like An Ipod And Instead Of Music You Put Info On It?

OK I'm just about all set to start...well kind of. I signed up for a CPR class at brockton hosptial for $40, I got all my books online from half.com (except the drug, med dictionary and lab diag book) I have all my uniforms and equipment. (what are we supposed to do with the patches?) I have an appt w/ my dr for the vaccines / titers (although I'm a little worried because the appt is scheduled for only 1 week before the paperwork is due...hmmmmm) Still in process of applying for student loans :) and need to take the Math CLEP prior to registering for classes....

I got a palm pilot, it's a handheld computer. You can put all the drug guides, medical dictionary and any reference books onto it so you don't have to carry books around with you. It was $205 for a Tungsten E2 but the software is what's going to be expensive....I hear it's worth it in the long run....

Oh and I need to get a recorder for lectures.....

How about you guys?

It sounds like you are all set for the fall. Can you sign up on line for the cpr at Brockton Hospital? I just took the adult cpr class in April so it looks like it will be taking the rest of the series as well.

I think that most of the shots you can get in one day except for the hepatitus. I think that it takes a couple of months to get the series of three shots. My appointment is in late July for the Doctor's. I have most of my equipment and will start buying books this week.

I was disappointed about the amount of money that is available through grants and loans. I recieved my award letter two weeks ago. It looks like the third semester is not included in with the student loans. I understand that some companies pay for your student loans while you work for them.

How did you make out with the lab times. There were fifty names on the eight to ten section by the time it got to me. I ended up only signing up for the twelve to two section. I wonder how they will notify you if the first day of class is a lab.

I was going to hold off on a palm pilot until school started to see if it was necessary.

Here is a link to an article about the graduation ceremony for the LPN's that just completed the program.

I got all my books on half.com and they were pretty cheap compared to other places. I got my uniforms at jasco and save approx $60 from the McGills list.

Yeah I got my award letter a while back. I do not qualify for any need based as my husband and I work full time (although I will only be working p/t when school starts) so not only does the unsub. stafford not even cover the cost of the tuition it also doesn't cover the cost of the 3rd semester, but I hear that is less than the fall/spring.

I already applied for an additional loan, we'll see how it all works out.

I was sitting in the front so I was able to sign up for the early lab class 8am and the 10am as a back up. Hopefully they don't do it on a who registers first basis because I'm still waiting on the ppwk for the fin. aid to go through.

does anyone know about needing all 3 hep b shots before starting in sept. i got the first one last week and someone told me i need all 3 before i start in sept. pls let me know asap

thanks again
