New Grads: Hearing back from hospitals?

i applied to a few hospitals (most importantly children's!) at the beginning of february, and i was just wondering how long it will take to get feedback. i am so anxious!! :uhoh3: it's tough waiting when you want something so bad. any other info about children's new grad program would be great too!! thanks.

My advice is to keep calling them to inquire about the status of your application and their interview process. HR departments get hundreds of new grad applications at this time of the year so you want to keep your name and application fresh in the hiring managers minds. Also, try getting the names of nurse managers on floors you are interested and send resumes or call/ email them directly. You really have to be proactive in the new grad job search,especially in Boston! I'm not too familiar with Children's hospital but if I remember correctly I believe they do phone interviews first around March.

Stay positive, and be proactive!!!!!! I KNOW Children's has a great New Grad program...

My advice would be to ask to shadow a nurse on a unit that may be hiring new grads for the time you are looking to begin the program.... That way you can meet people and get your foot in the door..

Or volunteer, etc.....

I am a new grad (as of Feb. 1st) and I have probably applied to at least 15 places in the Northshore area. Only one hospital, with the specialty I want, has interviewed me. A few other places have informed me that new grad programs only happen at certain times of the year, which bummed me out a little bit. The one hospital I'm hoping to work for basically told me to come back when I passed boards, so it's hard to figure out what to do.

I sometimes wonder about that "shortage!" Maybe it's just harder for winter/new grads sometimes.

I graduated last May and started applying by the end of January to every major hospital in the metro area, and called about 100 times to my top choices. Finally, 1 day after graduation I was offered a after having 3 different interviews for the same floor.

My word of advice....Just be persistant, call human resources inquire about any available job openings, if possible get a job at Children's as a PCA, as everyone else has posted, just be proactive and persistant!! Try to see if there is a way to make your application stand out from the rest, stay fresh in their minds, and most important stay positive! It's good that you're starting early for the job search, stick with it girl! :lghmky:
