Helperman- If you don't mind me asking, why are you declining? Where are you planning on attending?

I'm a family man living in a suburb outside of Boston. Regis is both more convenient and in my opinion more of a personality fit for me. There is more emphasis on service at Regis and the education is equal between all 7 schools in Ma. Anyone that graduates and passes the boards will have no issues finding employment. I also find it absurd that MGH doesn't interview. One thing that separates APNs from MDs is personal interaction. How you can determine that from scores, grades, reccos, a resume, and a personal statement is beyond me. I have friends and family that are physicians and NPs affiliated with MGH and one that went through this program there. It is a good program and you will all learn a ton and become great APNs.

As a first year student (who just began his second semester), I will tell you that we just received an e-mail saying that we will be able to request a track change by February 15 (not to say that they will let everyone switch). So, apparently you can switch, I think it just matters what specialty you're in / you're trying to switch into. Family seems to be the largest group, and Peds and Women's Health (alone - i.e., not combined with another specialty) seem to be the least popular. Rumor has it that a lot of people are switching out of psych, but again, that's just rumor.
Congrats to all who have heard great news!

MGHIHP is a great program. If I remember correctly when I was doing my research, it provides a lot of clinical hours compared to other programs.
However, my personal opinion is that the "brand name" of the school doesn't matter as much in nursing. I think you will be successful if you work hard and graduate from any of the Boston area (including UMass Worcester) schools.
The things to compare between schools are the # of clinical hours, the cost, the convenience factor, etc. There are many, many successful nurse practitioners that have come out of MGHIHP, UMass-W, NE, BC, Simmons, Regis, etc.
So, my advice is, go with those factors.
Thank you so much for the advice! I will certainly look into these factors :)
