One of my friends who is a nurse now uses her iPad mini as a reference when need be. She likes using it but I don't know if they will let us use them during clinicals, etc...[/quote']

You won't be able to use an iPad (or phone) during clinicals. You can look up anything you need, however, at the computers in the nurses' stations or in the hallways. Plus, I wouldn't want to bring anything nice into clinicals - hospitals are icky places.
