MCPHS Class of 2012

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hey, I was accepted a few weeks ago to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) Worcester Class of 2012 Accelerated Bachelors of Nursing program. I wanted to start a thread to introduce myself, and to see if anyone else had started to apply or has been accepted to the program. I already sent in my deposit and I am really excited to start school, and meet everyone in the class.

I actually lived with my aunt who lives in worcester. BUt I know some people lived on Clark St in worcester. There is some apts there and it is a safe area and within miles to school. Other people went in on sharing an apt on Plantation st in Worcester. Hope that helps, I would not live in the apts close to school unless they are the ones MCPHS owns. Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

Thanks for your help Linds! I am curious about that the schedule was like. Also, do you know the exact cost of the program?

The schedule changes slightly every semester. During the first semester, I believe we were there from 8-4 M-F with I think 2 days a week for lab which then was like 4-630 as well. I can't remember exactly. My loans ended up being right around $50,000 for the program and I took out very little extra for "spending" money. I think it works out to be $36,000/year if you calculate it per semester.

Linds1334,

What is your honest opinion on the program? Do you feel well prepared? How is the program regarded at area hospitals?

I have been accepted, but not yet sent in a deposit. I would really value your thoughts.

I applied for both MCPHS and MGH. I feel that MCPHS was worth it. The professors are well trained and knowledgeable. I went into the program having zero healthcare experience and I do feel prepared for being an RN. Every nursing program teaches you the essentials of how to become a novice nurse. And this program does that and more. It is not for the weak hearted, it is a hard program that is time consuming and can be very stressful at times. Whenever I went to clinicals the staff there always had high words for student nurses from MCPHS. We are regarded as professional and prepared. I think this type of program is a great thing because of short time of the program and getting your BSN instead of an Associates. I hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask more.

Hi Congrats on graduating and on the info you've given us! I am also starting the program this january and am looking forward to it! Are you working as a nurse? How long after graduation do we take the nclex?

Hi! Good Luck with the program! I am currently working as a nurse on a sub acute floor in a care and rehab facility. I took the NCLEX in June, I think out of everyone who took it in Mass I was one of the first few. Some people chose to wait a little longer, I just wanted to get it done. It really wasn't as bad as I imagined. Don't let that stress you out.

Hi all,

I'm Meg! I'm living in NYC and planning to go to MCPHS in January. We are thinking of living in the Springfield area. Is there anyone else thinking of living that direction? Linda, thank you for your comments--very helpful!!

Meg

Hi Linds1334- so I have a few questions! Were you able to get any other scholarships through the websites? If so, let me know. Also, any advice on the program? I'm excited to start this january and just dont know what to expect!

What are the requirements to get into this school?

Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2, microbiology, statistics, chemistry 1 and 2 and Human development

Congrats to all that got in. I just graduated in May from MCPHS worcester. Let me know if any of you have questions..I'd be happy to help answer anything.

Hello Linds1334. Congrats. I'm thinking in applying for fall 2011 class. How is the program? Since the schedule is intense, I am afraid I won't have much time to study for exams. I live in Framingham it's going to take me at least 45 minutes to get there every day. Please any insight will be helpful. Hope hear from you soon!!!
