MCPHS Class of 2012
Hi! Good Luck with the program! I am currently working as a nurse on a sub acute floor in a care and rehab facility. I took the NCLEX in June, I think out of everyone who took it in Mass I was one of the first few. Some people chose to wait a little longer, I just wanted to get it done. It really wasn't as bad as I imagined. Don't let that stress you out.

which hospitals in new england with new nurse graduate critical care programs?
UMASS Mem took 32 new grads this year, some are for critcal care (icu) some are for acute (med surg). Don't know when they will take the new class. They list it under their jobs if they are accepting applicants. They hire new grads because they are cheaper and they don't offer benefits for the program.

MCPHS Class of 2012
I applied for both MCPHS and MGH. I feel that MCPHS was worth it. The professors are well trained and knowledgeable. I went into the program having zero healthcare experience and I do feel prepared for being an RN. Every nursing program teaches you the essentials of how to become a novice nurse. And this program does that and more. It is not for the weak hearted, it is a hard program that is time consuming and can be very stressful at times. Whenever I went to clinicals the staff there always had high words for student nurses from MCPHS. We are regarded as professional and prepared. I think this type of program is a great thing because of short time of the program and getting your BSN instead of an Associates. I hope this answers your questions, feel free to ask more.

MCPHS Class of 2012
The schedule changes slightly every semester. During the first semester, I believe we were there from 8-4 M-F with I think 2 days a week for lab which then was like 4-630 as well. I can't remember exactly. My loans ended up being right around $50,000 for the program and I took out very little extra for "spending" money. I think it works out to be $36,000/year if you calculate it per semester.

MCPHS Class of 2012
I actually lived with my aunt who lives in worcester. BUt I know some people lived on Clark St in worcester. There is some apts there and it is a safe area and within miles to school. Other people went in on sharing an apt on Plantation st in Worcester. Hope that helps, I would not live in the apts close to school unless they are the ones MCPHS owns. Let me know if you have any more questions. :)

MCPHS Accel program-any students out there?
Right now we have 33 or so students. Started with around 40 or so and some left for personal reasons and others didn't maintain the 2.7 cum gpa or minimum C grade in any class to stay. My undergrad gpa was 3.7, but i'm pretty sure that most people just had above a 3.0. We are a younger class, average age is around 25 with a few the high in their young 30s. There are some students that just graduated in 2008, and others who have worked for a few years prior to starting the program. Most of the students are caucasian and female. There is some diversity with asian women and there are 5 males in the class. Hope that helps.

MCPHS Accel program-any students out there?
awesome yea...There were a few people who had kids but actually both are going to have to come back because of not getting high enough grades. You can do it with kids if you can put aside enough time to study. Good luck and def let me know if you have more questions and I will let you know how clinicals go

MCPHS Accel program-any students out there?
Hi everyone, I actually started the program Jan 2009 and have loved it so far. Don't get me wrong you spend a ton of time studying and don't have a huge social life...but what accelerated program will give you one anyway. The first semester was set up with 4 classes and a lab. We went to school M-F varying in times from 830-1130 then 1230-330 two days a week, had lab one day a week for 3 hrs, and class half days 2 days a week. Overall it was alot to keep up with the reading for the various classes but you learn your groove. During the summer the class load drops but you do one class for 5 weeks everyday with two half days of lab. It is a great class but it was somewhat alot of info to absorb so quickly. I haven't started clinicals yet but will be starting in about 3 weeks or so. This program is worth it if you're willing to put in the time and effort. The faculty is great, all very well educated and know what they are doing. Some people in our class do work, but I do not as I feel like it would be too stressful. Let me know if you have more questions

Worries about Paying for Nursing School
Hi All, I was wondering what options people had as far as paying for nursing school. Also, has anyone gotten their loans paid for as a sign on bonus when being hired after becoming an RN? Thanks!

How Competitive are the Accelerated BSN Programs
Hi, I'm applying to three 2nd Bachelor's Accelerated BSN programs (UMASS Amherst, MGH, and Mass College of Pharmacy and Health Professions). I was wondering if someone could tell me how their stats were on their applications. Not really sure how tough they are to get in. Also anyone know how much each program is for tuition and fees...kind of confusing on their websites. Any help would be great! -Lindsay
