Why is the wait so long to find out?

  1. 0
I was wondering...do you think they really wait until the end of the current semester to see how students did in their current classes before accepting them? I mean, from what I've heard from a BIG source at the college is, "you are entered into a computer, and it ranks you." Does it really take 8 weeks for a computer to do that? I know there is an overabundance of apps, but still

    Any thoughts? Help?

I was wondering...do you think they really wait until the end of the current semester to see how students did in their current classes before accepting them? No, the school will have no clue what your final GPA is unless you are doing an internal transfer and they wait until after the final grades are posted to accept students. The school wont do this because it puts their own students at a disadvantage over external transfer students. Also they wont wait that long because students that applied to multiple schools will go with their safety net if they have to wait too long to hear back from their #1 school (or they will eat the deposit, but who can throw away that kind of money).
I mean, from what I've heard from a BIG source at the college is, "you are entered into a computer, and it ranks you." Does it really take 8 weeks for a computer to do that? Assuming your BIG source wasn't pulling you leg and that a computer program does all the rankings it would still take alot of time. At 5 minutes an app for data entry it would take over 66 hours to put 800 apps into the system. The staff doing that entry still has to do their normal job (I am sure you dont want them to hire a temp that could really care less about getting the numbers right, confuse %ile and % etc...) and can just get to the data in their freetime. Tie this to that same staff member more than likely fielding calls from students wondering the status of their package and 8 weeks doesnt sound to bad at all.

The school could have also delayed starting on the apps to allow straggler applications to trickle in. The school also has to decide on where to draw the line based on staffing (not every class is at 100% capacity at start, some are under some are over) and prepare all the welcome aboard packages. All of this has to be double checked for accuracy (I still remember when UCSD accidently sent out acceptance letters to 1/3 of the applicants in 2009, people were getting ready to sue for emotional distress when they found out the letters were a mistake and they hadn't been accepted). I know there is an overabundance of apps, but still It takes time, and I promise you all of us that are still waiting are just as eager to hear as you are, and just be glad that you didn't apply to Montgomery College, their application deadline got pushed to April 1st (hopefully they dont have an 8 week wait...).

I applied to AACC- the deadline for initial apps as March 15th, then after that they let you have until May 3rd to get your residence stuff in. At AACC a adviser told me that they do just input name and gpa and go highest to lowest, the first 72 get acceptance letters and 20 more get wait listed, she said it was just like that. I heard that they have waited (for AACC at least) until the end of the semester b/c up until next semester you can apply while you are still taking classes. For example I applied in March, but didn't finish my last pre-req until May, so they need those grades to be posted. The 2nd reason was that graduation is right after the semester ended. so they want to get the grad's out before the rookies come in.
Either way, I hope you get in - we should find out this week - eeeekkkkkk! Even with a 3.6 I am pretty nervous!
