Hello!!

I just graduated a couple months ago from CCBC with my ADN, took the NCLEX and passed, now I'm focused on finding a job.

My question is: As I'm applying for positions, I know only having an ADN isn't great. Some places won't even consider hiring me... I plan to get a BSN but wanted to get a job first. Should I just mention that in my cover letter/resume. Would that even matter?

Also, what hospitals are good w/ tuition reimbursement. I actually love school, but I'm in so much student debt now that it's scary to accrue more before I get a job. I was considering an online RN to BSN like walden or chamberlain, but after reading the horror stories about online programs I think I'm going to wait it out and try to go to Uni of MD or somewhere local... just need a job first!

I'll really work in pretty much any nursing position and am open to anything, I just need to find the right place... what should I include in my job apps to convince them to hire me?

Are you in the greater Baltimore area? Which hospitals have you been applying to?

I was recently offered a RN job at Hopkins. They're tuition reimbursement is pretty good. $5k/year. Also if you agree to stay there long enough they'll even pay 100% of tuition.

I went to Chamberlain's RN to BSN program. I thought it was pretty straight forward. I had no issues with it. The only downside of the program is that it is VERY expensive. Fortunately for me, I had a scholarship that covered my tuition.

@ameliasaunt I've applied to all medstar hospitals, hopkins, uni of md downtown and st. joes, mercy and pretty much every position that says it would consider a new grad or "ADN required, BSN preferred"

@scoope23 That's awesome! Congrats! I applied to a lot of hopkins positions last week but haven't heard back.

It's great to hear that Chamberlain worked out... that makes me feel better about considering them as an option. I would love to just do my BSN online just feel leary of the internet sometimes especially with various negative reviews... Did they set you up w/ a scholarship or did you find it elsewhere?

I found it elsewhere. I got the HRSA NURSE Corps Scholarship. This scholarship covers 100% of tuition/fees plus you get a monthly stipend to spend how ever you wish. If you accept this scholarship, there is a 2 year service obligation where you have to work in a qualified medically under served area after graduation. To see if a facility is an appropriate site for service, you just have to put the address in this search engine HRSA - Find Shortage Areas by Address to see if it qualifies. The facility has to have a HPSA score of 14 or higher
