New grad job situation in Maryland

I'm a new grad RN from Long Island with an associates degree, working on a BSN (program started a week after graduation from associates). I'm interested in moving to Maryland, but wanted to obtain a position before I did.

I was wondering what the pay is like in Maryland, it's about $75,000/yr working nights in a hospital on Long Island.

What are some hospitals or hospital systems I should look at for a position?

University of Maryland Medical Center starts their new grads at $24.15/hr. A lot of the hospitals in the city have new grad programs - I'd try looking at UMMC, Hopkins, and Harbor Hospital.

It depends on where you want to live. If you are looking in the downtown area, it's going to be expensive (in my opinion). A lot of people live in Federal Hill or Fells Point. If you are looking to do that, I would try Craigslist because that seems to be where the most reasonably priced apartments and rowhomes are listed. I have friends who are paying $1600-1700/month for a one bedroom apartment in Federal Hill, and then others who are paying $2200/month for a three bedroom rowhouse so it varies. There are also a lot of places outside of the city you could live that are less expensive and that still wouldn't be too bad of a commute. Mt. Washington and Towson are two that come to mind, and they are about a 20 minute drive into the city.

I am a new grad living in MD. Be aware that last time I was applying for positions UMMC was not hiring new grads at this time. I would check out Johns Hopkins Bayview. I got in for an interview for a position that was experience preferred just a few days ago. I know that most of the hospitals in the area have already hired their new grads. Good luck!

I pay 850.00 for a nice 1 bedroom apt. in a safe ( a big issue in Baltimore City) family oriented quiet neighborhood. I live in a complex that has a pool, is next to a nice park, and has a stream with some woods on the other side. We see deer, rabbits on a regular basis, and occasional fox, groundhogs, raccoons. I walked to Preakness, and to see the horses in exercise. I live within 7 miles (15 min ) of about 8 hospitals, including mine.

Hey OP, just a thought, Anne Arundel county is really wonderful, (Crofton,Arnold, Annapolis, Severna Park) and you can get a nice place for around 1500. It's where I live!
